McDonald’s Women's Super League Round 12
Strikers Open Up Six Point Gap
The Devonport Strikers took an enormous stride towards securing a WSL/Statewide Cup double, as they downed the defending champions South Hobart 2-0 at D'arcy Street. In a game that was largely devoid of scoring opportunities, the Strikers took the lead via Whitney Knight picking out the top corner from outside the box in the 29th minute. Lucy Foote then doubled the advantage shortly before half time, sweeping home a rebound from outside the box after a desperately unlucky Kacee Ponting had denied Grace Sims, only to see the ball rebound right into Foote's path. From there the Strikers shut things down and saw the game out in the second half, as they moved 6 points clear on top of the table.
Final Score
South Hobart 0
Devonport Strikers 2 (W.Knight, 29', L.Foote 41')
