Watkins Returns To Haunt Lions

South Hobart downed the Kingborough Lions 2-1 at Lightwood Park to jump up into second place on the Super League table. Former Lion Samantha Watkins was the match-winner, with her strike just past the hour mark separating the sides. Golden Boot leader Josie Mamic had earlier opened the scoring for the defending champions, but the Lions' lead lasted all of five minutes before Hannah Walsh continued her brilliant season and restored parity with an absolute howitzer of a shot in the 12th minute. Both sides would create good scoring chances as the game wore on, but only Watkins would seize one, picking out the top corner after some nice work to set the chance from Nikki Moutsatsos.

Final Score

Kingborough Lions 1 (H.Walsh 13’)

South Hobart 2 (J.Mamic 7’, S.Watkins 62’)

Dominant Knight Steers Strikers Ever Closer To League Title

A Whitney Knight masterclass helped propel the Devonport Strikers to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Taroona FC at KGV. Knight demonstrated just why she will be one of the major favourites for the end-of-season awards by scoring three of her side's four goals and then setting up Lucy Foote for the other in an utterly dominant performance. The victory sees the Strikers continue to close in on a maiden WSL title, needing just 7 more points to make mathematically certain of what at this point seems an inevitability.

Final Score

Taroona FC 0

Devonport Strikers 4 (W.Knight 21’ 41’ 83’, L.Foote 53’)

Gadon and Brown Braces Fire Knights To Big Road Win

Braces from Bronte Gadon and Jemima Brown helped secure the Glenorchy Knights a 4-1 road win over Launceston United to move past the 2022 Champions and up into fourth place on the league table. The hosts took the lead when Lucy Smith's inswinging corner was not dealt with and snuck across the line, but they were made to pay not taking their chances to double their lead when the game swung approaching half time. First Bronte Gadon scrambled home an equaliser from a scrap in the box before Jemima Brown pounced to hand the Knights the lead in the third minute of first half stoppage time. The match would remain in the balance throughout the second half till late on when Gadon and Brown hit the back of the net to complete their braces and secure an impressive road win for the young Knights side.

Final Score

Launceston United 1 (L.Smith 9’)

Glenorchy Knights 4  (B.Gadon 37’ 87’, J.Brown 45+3’, 90’)
