McDonald’s Women's Super League Round 21
Strikers Achieve Unbeaten Season
The Devonport Strikers defeated the Glenorchy Knights 3-0 at KGV to achieve an unbeaten 2024 WSL campaign. The victory leaves the Champion Strikers with a 19-1-0 record, with the only blemish on their record a 2-2 draw with Knights at Valley Road earlier in the season. There was to be no further blemish inflicted by the Knights on Saturday however, as first-half strikes from Grace Sims and Sam Hardy got them off and running before Maddy Payne put a cherry on top of the cake with her late strike. It has been a season of absolute dominance from the Devonport Strikers, who finish the year with the League/Cup double and a final gap of 14-17 points from second placed South Hobart.
Final Score
Devonport Strikers 3 (G.Sims 10’, S.Hardy 37’, M.Payne 85’)
Glenorchy Knights 0

Lions Sign Off In Style
The Kingborough Lions ended a promising campaign with a thumping 7-2 win over Launceston United. Their highly potent attack gave one final reminder of their quality in the victory, pulling the United defence apart and racing to a 7-1 lead after just over an hour of play had elapsed with Wills, Lashmar and Davis all scoring braces. Hannah Walsh also got in on the act for one final time, capping a superb individual season that will have her right in the mix for major awards. The win leaves Kingborough with a third-placed finish, but their final tally of 35 points and 11 wins are both record marks for the side in a WSL season in a clear sign of growth from the Lions. For United, it was a year in which injuries plagued them and capped their ceiling as they slid to fourth, from where they will look to rise back up in 2025.
Final Score
Kingborough Lions 7 (H.Walsh 18’, C.Lashmar 28’ 43’, T.Wills 34’ 45+2’’, L.Davis 62’, 64’)
Launceston United 2 (L.Smith 23’, A.Farquhar 73’)

Taroona Leaps Past Riverside
Taroona FC ended their season on a winning note, downing Riverside Olympic 3-1 for their second victory of the season. The dangerous Jessie Williams opened the scoring and was a constant threat throughout the game with her mazy dribbling skills standing out. She played a role in the second goal too, drawing a save from the keeper that Madison James was on hand to poke home from the rebound. Skylar Higgins gave the Roos a lifeline heading into halftime, but Hannah Graham-Smith put the result beyond doubt with her superb finish in the 74th minute.
The result sees the Pirates jumping past Riverside on the ladder and into sixth place, with Riverside now needing to get a positive result against South Hobart in their season ending catch-up game next weekend if they are to avoid a last-placed finish.
Final Score
Taroona FC 3 (J.Williams 2’, M.James 36’, H.Graham-Smith 74’)
Riverside Olympic 1 (S.Higgins 42’)
