Mies Helps Fire City Into Semis

Noah Mies marked his return to Launceston City starting line-up with a goal and an assist as Launceston City accounted for Hobart United 2-0 at KGV in their Lakoseljac Cup Quarter Final. Mies fired his side into the lead with a powerful hit on 16 minutes before turning provider for Charlie Dyer seven minutes later. United pushed hard to find a goal to spark a fightback but City's defence, marshalled superbly by Oh and Millington shut them out and secured their progression. Having found himself demoted to the Northern Championship in recent weeks, Mies was out to leave his mark on return to the starting XI and that is just what he did as he opened the scoring on 16 minutes. Samuel Ridgard pounced on a turnover in defence before feeding it through to the hulking striker who absolutely buried his shot into the top corner, beating the keeper with pure power. Five minutes later he turned provider as he turned sharply in the penalty area, having received the ball from Jarrod Linger before squaring it to Charlie Dyer. City's midfield workhorse made no mistake, powering an effort into the bottom corner that left the keeper no chance. From there it was a defensive grind from City as they saw off the attacking threat posed by a talented Hobart United attack with a rock solid rearguard effort. Oh and Linger were instrumental in tracking some quick counter attacks whilst Lindsay Millington was his usual rock solid self as they staved off the hosts and frustrated them into submission, refusing to give them a glimmer that might have sparked a comeback. It was a dour second half at times but City were good value for their win and they now move into the final four of the Lakoseljac Cup where they will hope to salvage something from a 2020 season that hasn't quite gone to plan. https://youtu.be/0mXqdOjsxYg [caption id="attachment_15314" align="alignnone" width="615"] Launceston City Keeper, Dan Nash (photo Solstice Digital)[/caption]
