Broadcast figures from the Olyroos & Matilda's performances at the Olympics show the phenomenal support Australians have for their national sides.
Despite a Group stage exit, it was the Olyroos' first appearance at an Olympics for 13 years. The opening shock win over Argentina showed the potential these youthful players can offer the nation going into the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Tasmania's own Nathaniel Atkinson featured in the win, as well as the loss to Spain, but was suspended for the loss against Egypt, that knocked the Olyroos out of the tournament. The highest peak audience against Spain hit 1.97 million viewers.
The Matildas narrowly missed out on a medal, but their courageous performances will be remembered for Sam Kerr's 6 goals making her the all-time national women's top goalscorer and Kyah Simon becoming the first indigenous Australian to get her 100th cap for her nation. Not to mention knocking a much favoured Great Britain side out of the competition.
The Matildas highest peak audience topped 2.32 million viewers, with an average audience of 1.87 million - the largest average audience for a women's team sport in Australian history.
They will hope to continue their form through a series of upcoming friendlies to be announced soon, as they prepare for the Women's World Cup in just under 2 years' time, on home soil.
