When Glenorchy Knights and Olympia FC Warriors take the field to contest the Lakoseljac Cup final on Monday it will be for some new looking silverware, with a new trophy having been commissioned to reflect the growing prestige of the competition. The new trophy was unveiled at KGV Football House on Tuesday morning, with members of the Lakoseljac family who helped to pick out the new trophy, present to help reveal it, along with the Presidents of the competing clubs.
The former trophy will not be going into retirement however, as it has now been converted into a new individual award, which will be presented to the best player on the ground as adjudged by a panel of five voters, who will each give a 3-2-1 vote for their top 3 players on the ground in the final.
In addition to the fancy new silverware, the coveted spot in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 is also up for grabs with both Olympia and Glenorchy Knights desperate to book their place and the national exposure that comes along with it. With the potential for a match up against an A-League side awaiting the winner, it promises to be a massive occasion for whoever can win the Cup Final and progress.
The Lakoseljac Cup Final kicks off at 4:30pm on Monday 12 June, with the Women's Statewide Cup Final between Hobart Zebras and Launceston City preceding it at 2:00pm. The Statewide Vase between University and Metro will be start the day off at 11;30am whilst on Friday Night, South Hobart and Olympia will meet in the Under 20 statewide Cup Final, kicking off at 7:00pm.
