NPL TAS Round 1 Team of the Week

GK- Jarrod Hill (Riverside) Continued his remarkable spot kick record as he saved yet another penalty and Hill kept his side in the game with some fine saves throughout the contest. RB- Keenan Douce (Kingborough) The Lions skipper was his energetic self down the right wing all game and his body on the line, ultra committed approach helped protect the clean sheet. CB- Danny Cowen (Kingborough) The Lions veteran was a force in the air for his side and his no nonsense defensive approach was exactly what his side required to keep out the Knights. CB- Byuntae Ahn (Clarence Zebras) Suffered a nasty looking injury at the end of the game but till that point he had put in a commanding shift at the back, looking composed and doing a fine job marshaling Jack Ryan in a great physical duel. LB- Riley Dillon (Clarence Zebras) There wouldn't be many more players in the competition who relish such a fierce battle as 'Stone Cold' does, and he thrived on the physicality and niggle that was hyper prevalent, putting in a great defensive showing. RM- Kasper Hallam (South Hobart) The speedster was a real handful for the City defence who struggled to deal with his directness and pace. Opened the scoring then drew the save that would lead to the second. CM- Chris Downes (Kingborough) The set piece maestro did what he does best for the Lions and conjured some dead ball magic to fire his side to the win, scoring one and setting up the other. CM- Joel Stone (Devonport) The reigning MVP didn't take long to leave his mark on season 2020, scoring what would prove the match winning goal with his well placed shot from outside the box. LM- Jarrod Linger (Launceston City) Linger was an absolute livewire for City against South, helping to create numerous chances with his dazzling footskills and dribbling ability and frequently springing attacks for his side. RF- Samuel Tooze (South Hobart) The young South Hobart striker was unplayable at times and he bagged a brace to help fire his side to the win, including a stunning blast from outside the box. LF- Brody Denehey (Devonport) Set up the Strikers goal and was an absolute bundle of energy in his NPL return, showing his lightning wheels and relentless work rate both in and out of possession. Coach: Dave Smith (Clarence Zebras) After a thumping 5-1 defeat against the Lions in the Cup a week prior, plenty had written the Zebras off heading into this one but he turned the side around and led them to a massive first up win over their rivals.
