Olympia Rescue A Point From Lions

The Olympia Warriors have rescued a point at the expense of Kingborough Lions in a 3-3 classic at Warrior Park. Olympia had a 2-0 buffer at the break courtesy of Callum and Declan Brown scoring but in a matter of five second half minutes that lead was evaporated by a vibrant Lions outfit who surged to a 3-2 lead. Goals from Davis Bryan, Adam Mckeown and Danny Cowen weren't enough for all three points after a late equaliser from Adam Gorrie's set-piece found the back of the net. Callum Brown was the first to get the breakthrough after getting onto a great low cross from his brother Declan, placing it into the bottom left of the goal. It was then Declan's turn to score just minutes later after being the recipient of some fantastic combination play from Jack Ryan and Adam Gorrie. Gorrie's delivery was near identical to the first goal. With another low cross, this time from the right wing, Callum Brown finished calmly and the Lions were in trouble early. Kingborough's attack never got going in the first half and Olympia were wasteful, having near double figures in the shots off target category heading into the break. Lion's Coach Jez Kenth must of really got stuck into his troops at half-time because it's safe to say no one saw the dramatic second half turn around coming. Combination was key for the Lions first as well with James Hall and Keenan Douce setting their play. Douce sent in a low cross from the right into the feet of Bryan who finished well and suddenly it was game on at Warrior Park. Ever the set piece maestro Chris Downes then launched in a looping long ball only a minute later from a set-piece which found the head of McKeown. McKeown headed home into the top left and just like that Kingborough were level. [caption id="attachment_15011" align="alignnone" width="615"] Bryan celebrates his goal with Cowen. Randall saved to his left but Cowen picked up the rebound and finished into an open net. A three goal turnaround in seven minutes and the Lions had turned the game on its head. Kingborough kept their charge going and tried to land the killer blow but were unsuccessful, despite holding up the play for most of the half. But there was a late twist as Adam Gorrie was given a set-piece opportunity in the late stages. His sailing ball dropped into the middle of a sea of bodies and somehow deflected home, either off Brown or Lions defender. The Lions then had a pair of late chances to land the final blow but failed to take them and it ended 3-3. A 3-3 final scoreline and Warriors had somehow found their grit to keep a point. The Lions will look at this as two points dropped and will now turn their focus to title leaders Devonport Strikers at Lightwood Park. The Warriors will be left to lick their wounds and will entertain South Hobart next Saturday night.
