Football Tasmania has announced that the National Premier Leagues Tasmania, NPL Under 21s and Women’s Super League seasons will each be conducted across 21 rounds in 2027.
Each competition will feature seven teams, with every club playing 18 matches, followed by a finals series.
Football Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata OAM said the schedule responded directly to feedback from clubs.
“The 2027 structure gives every team 18 matches and brings the NPL, NPL Under 21s and Women’s Super League into closer alignment, and offers each league the chance at finals football,” he said.
“This will provide greater consistency across our top-flight competitions, create more playing and development opportunities and deliver a stronger season for clubs, players and supporters.”
Riverside Olympic has advised Football Tasmania that it will not field teams in the NPL Tasmania, NPL Under 21s or Women’s Super League in 2027.
The bottom two teams from the ten-team 2026 NPL season, Launceston United and Ulverstone, have been relegated in accordance with the competition structure announced before the season.
The seven clubs contesting the 2027 NPL Tasmania competition will be:
- Kingborough Lions
- Devonport City Strikers
- South Hobart
- Glenorchy Knights
- Launceston City
- Clarence Zebras
- South East United
The Women's Super League licensing process is currently underway and the clubs will be named in due course.
Football Tasmania will continue working with clubs on the detailed competition framework, including scheduling and the longer-term structure of the statewide and regional senior men and women competitions.
The 2027 season dates and fixtures will be released in the coming months.
