The Albanese Government has provided $2.3 million in the October 25 Federal Budget to part-fund a major upgrade of sports grounds and community facilities in Seymour Street, Brighton.
The funding was an election promise by federal Labor MP for Lyons, Brian Mitchell.
“This promise is signed, sealed and is being delivered,” Mr Mitchell said. “Brighton is a fast-growing municipality and this upgrade means hundreds of locals, many of them children, can better enjoy a range of outdoor activities.”
The federal funding will help deliver two full-size soccer pitches, clubrooms and additional facilities. Brighton Council’s masterplan also includes:
- • new car parking and bus stop areas;
- • the extension and refurbishment of existing playground and picnic facilities;
- • a new youth facility including a skate park, and events space.
- • enclosed dog park(s); and,
- • additional landscaping and tree planting
“This funding kicks goals for local soccer but it’s also great for dog-walkers, teenagers playing sport, or parents teaching their kids to ride a bike in a safe environment.
“Delivered in partnership with Brighton council and Football Tasmania, this federal funding will help deliver a Seymour Street recreational precinct that all of Brighton can be proud of for many years to come.”
