Seymour Street funding promises boost to Brighton

Football Tasmania has welcomed today’s commitment by Federal Labor to build two full-size pitches, lighting, clubrooms and additional facilities at Seymour Street in Brighton if elected next month.

The football component forms part of Labor’s $2.3 million commitment towards the Seymour Street Masterplan, which also includes a number of complementary community infrastructure initiatives.

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said the funding would provide a massive boost to football in the fast-growing Brighton region.

“We’ve seen steady growth in participation in Brighton for a number of years now, and this commitment will help take football in the region to the next level,” Mr Bulkeley said.

“As Tasmania’s most-played team sport, grassroots football plays a huge role in the community, and I thank Mr Mitchell for recognising its importance.

“I’d also like to thank Brighton Council and Mayor Leigh Gray for helping bring this vision to life.

“This will mean that regardless of the election outcome, Tasmania’s football community will have the facilities they deserve.”

"We believe community infrastructure projects such as this should appeal to all sides of politics and call on the Liberals to support it as well.
