The large shadow of the Coronavirus is looming over the scheduled start of the State's top divisions, the Women's Super League and NPL Tasmania. The two Statewide competitions were set to kick off on Saturday 21 March, however recent developments with COVID-19 have meant that is now no certainty, and guidelines published by FFA today mean that if they do go ahead, only essential personnel will be permitted to attend games.
Football Tasmania today released the following statement to its members with an update of where things stand.
Football Tasmania understands that many in the Footballing community are anxious to know whether football matches and other activities will be proceeding as planned this weekend following the FFA press conference this morning and the media release that was distributed.
Football Tasmania is meeting with the Premier this evening and will seek the specific advice of the State Government. We are also discussing this with our Member Federation colleagues. It is likely that the FT Board will meet via teleconference within the next 24 hours or so to determine the most appropriate way to move forward with football.
In the meantime clubs and participants are asked to refer to the following guidelines referenced by the FFA this morning.
Those FFA Guidelines can be viewed at the link below.
