South Smash Hapless Clarence

South Hobart piled more misery on struggling Clarence United, running out emphatic 13-0 winners in their Round 6 clash on Saturday afternoon. South dismantled the Reds, racing to a 5-0 lead after just 24 minutes and continued to run up the score as the game wore on. Darcy Hall scored fives times in his first game back as South moved into second place on the NPL TAS table and gave their goal difference a major boost. The game began with attacks from both sides and it didn’t take long for the scoring to open. In the 6th minute Tobias Herweynen made a great run down the left before playing Morton at the top of the box. Morton then found Desouza who played it through to Herweynen to open the scoring. Just seconds later and South Hobart were on the attack again, this time it was Nick Morton with the assist, sliding the ball through to Darcy Hall who slid the ball into the back of the net, doubling South’s lead. In the 14th minute South fans were celebrating again when Alex Walter managed to find Jack Turner in the box after a corner. Turner controlled well using his chest, before striking the ball into the back of the net. Only five minutes later and the visitors lead was extended again, when Tobias Herweynen put the ball on a platter for Nick Morton who had found plenty of space at the back post, Morton then made no mistake with his shot, and the score moved to 5-0. Five minutes after Morton hit home, Darcy Hall was celebrating his second, with Loic Feral producing a long ball towards Hall. Hall controlled the ball well before hitting past French and into the back of the net. Soon after, Adam Gorrie found space down the right wing, with Darcy Street's favourite redhead whipping in a dangerous ball. This ball appeared to deflect off Paul Palmer and into the back of the net. Darcy Hall then went on to continue his goal scoring rampage, after Bowman played a long ball to Walter, Walter then played it across to Hall to complete his hat trick in just the 32nd minute. However he didn’t stop there, chipping Jake French on the cusp of half time to find his fourth, and as the teams went into halftime the score was 8-0. The second half began much like the first with Jack Turner hitting the ball straight to the keeper. Clarence also had a good passage of play, with Lange, Amani and Semelbauer combining well before a heavy touch broke the attack. Not long after and the goal scorer turned the provider with Darcy Hall finding Turner at the back post, moving the score to 9-0. In the 53rd minute a long Desouza ball found its way to Herweynen. Herweynen then sent a slow moving ball past goalkeeper Jake French which was then slammed home by substitute Ben Hamlet. Just four minutes after Hamlet’s goal and it was Loic Feral who found himself rising highest from a corner, scoring his first goal of the game. Not long after and Clarence’s Cade Smith found space at the top of the box in the 64th minute, however his shot went well wide. Darcy Hall then hit his fifth after some good build up play and a good ball from Herweynen. Armani and Price combined well in the 71st minute before Lange produced a heavy touch after a great run on goal. Jake French then proved why he is regarded as one of the form goalkeepers in the competition, producing saves to deny Hamlet, Morton and Gorrie before producing a top notch save to deny Jack Turner another goal. However, French could do nothing to deny Loic Feral’s 87th minute shot, with South’s number 6 rising highest again to head home. This goal saw the score move to 13-0 and this was how it stayed, with South Hobart heading home comfortable winners. Speaking post-match Clarence coach Warren Burt believed the amount of times his side lost the ball and failed to complete passes “got out of hand.” He told his players to “keep their heads up” and with seven changes from Wednesday’s clash with the Knights he believed the short turn around had an impact. South Hobart coach Ken Morton said it “was a really good result as far as goals for goes and a good performance as far as our football, our passing and our movement.” He hopes that his side can bring what they did against Clarence into the game against Glenorchy. The result is South’s third win of the season, whilst Clarence are still searching for their first. On Friday night South will face the Glenorchy Knights in what is sure to be a good contest, 8:15pm at KGV. Meanwhile Clarence face one of the toughest road trips in the competition as they head to Valley Road on Saturday at 2:15pm. https://youtu.be/BqPHFtHaCJo
