State Government Football Funding Increase

Dear Tasmanian Footballing Community Some of the details inside the state budget documents aren’t always widely communicated, so I wanted to take this opportunity to update the football family regarding football funding in this year’s budget. As noted in the budget papers; “Funding of $1.2 million over four years has been allocated to Football Federation Tasmania to support grassroots and elite football development in Tasmania for both men and women. Funding of $300,000 has been in allocated in 17-18.”  FFT is very pleased to see an increase in investment in football for the next four years. This represents a 20% increase over the previous funding package which contributes to participation growth, coach and referee development, governance, integrity in sport initiatives and player development pathways. I deliberately call this an ‘investment’ because the social and health benefits to society from participation in a team based sport such as ours are valuable dividends. We thank the Premier of Tasmania and the Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon Will Hodgman MP for appreciating this and for his on-going support of football in the state.” As a not for profit, every dollar we receive from sponsors means one less dollar we have to recover from stakeholders such as yourselves. This continues to be an exciting time for our game with strong player numbers, ease of participation for everyone who wishes to play our game at any level and additional opportunities for those who wish to play at higher levels. FFT staff will now meet with the Department of Sport and Recreation to finalise the specific arrangements associated with the funding over the next four years. Yours in football, Sean Collins President FFT
