Statewide Cup Fixtures Released

An A-League curtain-raiser at UTAS Stadium and a jam-packed Easter long weekend of football action are among the highlights of the next round of McDonald’s statewide cup fixtures released today by Football Tasmania.

All eyes will be on Hobart United and Launceston City as they face off in the Lakoseljac Cup Round of 16 fixture at 1pm on Saturday 16 April at UTAS Stadium in the lead up to Western United hosting Perth Glory in the A-League Men’s.

Seven other fixtures take place across Saturday 16th and Monday 18th in the Lakoseljac Cup, with an intriguing mix of clashes between NPL, Southern Championship and Northern Championship opponents.

With four teams automatically qualifying for the next round with byes in the Women’s Statewide Cup, four games are scheduled in the Round of 16, including the one match from all three competitions not held on the Easter Weekend, with Clarence Zebras hosting Olympia Warriors in an eastern shore derby.

The Men’s Under 20s Cup also has four Round of 16 fixtures, with two games in the north and two games in the south across the weekend.

All three cup competitions are supported by McDonald’s.

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said the football community always looked forward to the magic of cup competitions.

“The three statewide cup competitions hold a special place for football players and spectators alike,” he said.

“Cup football is always exciting and unpredictable, and every team in this round will fancy their chances to progress to the next rounds.

“We’re delighted to be able to showcase Hobart United vs Launceston City in an A-League curtain-raiser at UTAS Stadium, giving players involved the opportunity to get a taste of what it’s like to play at a professional level stadium.

“We’re also excited to welcome McDonald’s on board as supporters of all three competitions, and are looking forward to a jam-packed Easter weekend of action across the state.”
