Dear Tasmanian Football Family,
How often have you heard or even said to yourself; ‘what a year 2020 has been’! And with the impact of COVID-19, along with many other challenges thrown our way, how true it is.
It is 235 days since football was suspended due to COVID, and 124 days since football resumed. Last night saw the last of the regular season matches for the 2020 season. And what a finish – Olympia FC Warriors taking out the Southern Men’s Championship title decider in a nail biting finish against University.
In the year that we’ve had, I am sure you will agree that football has provided a wonderful outlet for so many people. The physical benefits, together with the sense of community and social benefits it provides, cannot be overstated.
This year has been made possible through the efforts, persistence and patience of so many.
- I would like to thank the Boards, volunteers and coaches of all clubs and associations. Many may be unaware of the countless hours these individuals put in even when there was no football being played.
- Thank you to the match officials throughout the state who kept in contact, maintained their training and returned in good numbers once football resumed.
- I’d especially like to thank each and every player – whether taking the field for the first time or returning from 2019. We hope to see you all next year.
- My thanks go to the Tasmanian Government for their funding and other support throughout COVID. This has made a major difference.
- Our gratitude to our Major Partner MyState Bank, who came on board in the most challenging of times for our game.
- My thanks to the team at Football Tasmania who have worked hard pre, during and post COVID shutdown to get football back on the park, and help deliver what ended up being a memorable season.
- Lastly I would like to thank the Directors of Football Tasmania. They are also volunteers like so many of you and have worked tremendously hard to help navigate us through 2020.
