Ulverstone scored a 4-3 victory over Kingborough Lions at Lightwood Park to securing them third place on the table. It was goal-for-goal all match as Ulverstone opened and closed the scoring in a see-sawing affair where Georgia Foote scored twice to get the visitors the win.
Despite the Lions lining up without Zoe Horgan who has joined the Tusculum University's Soccer Program in the US, they started the brighter with Emile Tatton threatening twice in the opening five minutes. She found herself in a good position in the third and the fourth minute however her first attempt was off target to the near post and her second attempt was off target to the far post. They were dealt a blow in the eighth minute however as Phoebe Clifford went down injured after her inch perfect sliding tackle denied Jazmin Gorrie a goal.
Just before the twenty minute mark Ulverstone broke the deadline with Gardner straying off her line in an attempt to beat Gorrie to the ball, however the speed of Gorrie made it an easy task to round the Kingborough 'keeper and slot home into an empty net.
Laura Davis won a corner in the 23rd minute which Kingborough converted to level the game. Anderson tried to palm away a goal-bound effort which went only as far as Emile Tatton who got her shin on the ball and prodded it home. Just four minutes later Ulverstone re-took the lead through Georgia Foote who scored a thunderous effort from 20-plus yards marking the end of a well-played, patient build up. Foote's picture perfect drive curled away from Gardner and nestled in the bottom right corner making it 2-1 to the visitors.
Just before the break Kingborough got back on level terms again through a somewhat controversial goal. Cries for handball rang out as Ulverstone players stopped preempting the referee's whistle but the alert Tatton went on to put the ball into the net and in the absence of a referee stoppage it was awarded to the home team.
Phoebe Clifford's injury from early in the half caused her to be substituted at half time, Menadue coming on to replace her. In a lacklustre opening ten minutes it was eventually injected with some excitement when Ulverstone scored their third through a brilliant solo effort from Bissett. She weaved between two defenders and slotted home off the inside of the post to put the visitors up 3-2.
In a busy final ten minutes Kingborough made it 3-3 in the 81st minute when Roubickova poked home in a crowded area. Despite just nine minutes left on the clock it was short-lived celebration as Ulverstone took possession up the other end and Georgia Foote scored her second when her diagonal run led to a classy finish just one minute later.
Kingborough continued pressing but couldn't break down the resilient Ulverstone defence as the final whistle brought an end to the high goal-scoring affair. Kingborough are now locked into fourth place and Ulverstone will finish one spot above in third as the final two rounds of the season will have no impact on the two side's standings.
