The game kicked off with pace when Ulverstone hit a long ball from their kick off, however Clarence held strong.
Amy Bissett was involved early, producing a great one-two, and then in the 3rd minute she hit a shot straight to Vanderniet. Four minutes later and it was Jazmin White with two great chances, however she hit both just wide of goals.
In the 15th minute Clarence’s Emily Grzinic made a great run down the right-hand side of the pitch, crossing the ball in, only for Anderson to collect well. Soon after and Anderson had the ball again, with Jessica Downham’s long free kick falling straight into the arms of the Ulverstone shot stopper.
In the 24th minute Nicola Davie almost put the home side in the lead, hitting a shot goalwards after a Clarence attacking throw. However, Georgia Anderson was not to be beaten, and soon after it was the visitors who broke through.
Not long after Davie’s chance and the ball had made its way down the other end. The ball then wound up at the feet of the dangerous Jazmin White, who played the ball to Danielle Mitchell. Mitchell struck the ball into the back of the net, putting her side 1-0 up.
Ulverstone then found their rhythm, with White, Gaffney, Foote and Bisset each having chances in the space of ten minutes. Amelia Vanderneit was doing well to keep her side in the contest, however soon after she would find herself conceding again.
Just before half time, a great pass was played that went through the heart of the Clarence defence. The pass was gathered by Jazmin White who finished well to make it 2-0, with the referee shaking his head at the calls for handball.
Three minutes later and the visitors almost had another goal, with the ball coming into the box at pace to deflect off Clarence defender Zara Dixon, this ball luckily went wide of the goal, and saw the score remain at 2-0 as the teams headed into the sheds.
The second half began much like the first, with Ulverstone attacking early. This early attack then resulted in a goal, as Jazmin White got on the end of a through ball. White finished well, putting her side 3-0 up with 49 minutes played.
Just six minutes after White’s goal and Amy Bissett scored an absolute belter. The Ulverstone number 12 found space at the top of the box and to curve the ball into the top right-hand corner and extend her sides lead to 4-0.
In the 58th minute Jazmin White produced a good run before Lucy Reimer hit wide. White then had a shot on target herself before soon completing her hat-trick. White’s third goal came after finding herself on the end of an Amy Bissett pass, finishing with aplomb.
Ten minues from time and Ulverstone had another, as Jazmin White found Lucy Foote in the middle of the box. Foote took a touch then struck the ball past Vanderniet and into the back of the net, extending her sides lead to 6-0.
With the home sides legs tiring, it wasn’t long before the visitors struck again.
This goal was a good individual effort from Amy Bissett, who produced a great run down the left-hand side, before cutting inside and shooting well, moving the score to 7-0 with 88 minutes played.
Just two minutes after her second goal and Amy Bissett completed her hat-trick and rounded out the 8-0 win. This effort was sparked after Jazmin White hit the post from her shot. The ball then bounced off the post into the path of Bissett who controlled the ball before firing into the back of the net.
Speaking post-match Ulverstone Coach Malcolm Gorrie thought “both sides played really well.” He explained that Clarence produced a number of chances going forward, however identified their lack of game time as a reason for their fitness. He was “really pleased” that his side could run out the full 90 and overall happy with the performance.
Clarence Coach Chris Chalker, said that Ulverstone are a “class side” and labelled their speed “phenomenal.” He was happy that his side did not give up for the 90 minutes and believed that they played well in the first twenty minutes in particular.
The win sees Ulverstone climb the table into third, whilst Clarence remain in fifth. Next week Ulverstone make the trip down South again, taking on South Hobart on Saturday, 2pm at Darcy Street. Meanwhile Clarence have another week off, with their game against Kingborough being postponed.
