University Smash Sharks To Reach Final Four

University SC have produced a stunning performance to defeat Somerset 5-0 on the road at Cardigan Street and book their place in the Lakoseljac Cup quarter finals. They ensured they would be the last Championship side left standing, and they could be daring to dream of even more after they produced a quality display that tore the Sharks defence apart. Having gone on the road to eliminate Launceston City in the previous round, this Bees side had shown themselves capable of pulling off big results in the Cup, and despite the long journey they showed no ill effects in the early exchanges. Both teams traded chances out of the gate in what quickly developed into an action packed, pulsating first half. It was Samuel Fahey who started the scoring when he cut in from the right and managed to squeeze his shot between the legs of experienced keeper Steven Treloar. Treloar would have liked to have had the second goal back when Tom Roach rose to fire a towering header that squirmed through the mits of the Sharks glove-man and into the back of the net to give the visitors a 2 goal half time lead. Any hopes of a second half fightback were extinguished by Stuart Carnaby just after the hour mark, when he took advantage of a mangled clearance at the back to slip in and slide home the finish to make it 3-0. A penalty from Jake Undy added further emphasis to the score midway through the half before Kenneth Trac bagged a deserved goal for a lively attacking performance to see it end 5-0 in favour of University. Somerset had their chances over the course of the 90 but couldn't find a cutting edge in front of goal, and once the third goal had flown in, the game was all but settled. The Students now await the draw for the Semi Final as they look to keep their run going all the way to the June 10 decider.
