Wademan Brace Fires Roos To Victory

A brace from Englishman Christopher Wademan was enough to secure a 2-0 victory for Riverside Olympic over Clarence United at Windsor Park on Saturday afternoon. Wademan now has 5 in 4 game since joining the club and he probably should have added to that tally as he passed up a couple of prime chances for his hat-trick in the second half as his movement and well timed runs caused the Clarence defence major headaches. He started the scoring in just 11th minute as he was played through on goal and he made no mistake, firing the first chance of the game home into the far corner of the net. Clarence would have been back on terms minutes later if not for Jarrod Hill, who made a spectacular save to deny a well hit Adam Hedge volley. Whilst the first 20 minutes hinted at an even contest, it was Riverside who took control of the game from then on, with Spanos and Gilmore highly influential in the midfield, seizing control and seeing their side dominate territorially. Wademan should have made it 2-0 when he fired past the post in the 36th minute after a lovely pass from Mitch Jones played him in, before Downham made a pair of saves to keep his side in the contest at 1-0 at half time. Whatever Alex Gaetaini said at half time clearly had an impact on his side, as they came firing out of the blocks in the second half. Twice Ryan Amani, who had a fine game in central defence, made goal line clearances before Downham pulled off a big kick save to deny Coert. But the pressure was mounting and Wademan would make no mistake from his next chance, as he charged between the central defenders before smashing an emphatic drive into the back of the net that left the keeper no chance. Two minutes later and he should've had his hat-trick, waltzing past the defence before prodding his left footed shot wide from close range. He was presented with another good chance 12 minutes from full time, and this time fired straight at the keeper, as his mixed day in front of goal continued. Lachie Burt and Jackson Ebini showed some good fight for Clarence and tried to pull a goal back, as Riverside took their foot off the pedal a little late in the contest. Ebini flashed a header wide and Burt was making things happen in midfield, but it failed to yield a goal and as the game ticked towards the end, the final result was never in doubt. At full time it was Riverside 2-0 Clarence, as the Roos move into double figures for their seasons points tally, whilst Clarence will be pleased to have put in a competitive showing, but their losing streak was extended. https://youtu.be/smHhB8fdMGo
