Warriors Annihilate Reds

The Olympia F.C Warriors continue to look the dominant force of the Super League in 2019, and they no showed no mercy to Clarence on Saturday, blasting 16 past them to storm to a huge 16-0 win that provided a major boost to their goal differential. Bonnie Davies topped the goal scorers list with five, whilst Olivia Bomford, Madison Chambers and Bianca Parker each scored a hattrick. Jade Williams and Heather Russell also chipped in with a goal each, adding to the impressive score line. It was go from the first whistle for the Warriors, with Puli producing a good run down the left. A shot in the second minute was followed by a goal in the third, with Olivia Bomford opening the scoring in the match. Bomford ran into the box at pace, cutting inside and outside in a great show of skill. The Warriors number nine then struck the ball into the back of the net, putting her side 1-0 up with three minutes played. The home side continued to attack the visitor’s goal, with a number of chances being stopped by Clarence’s keeper, Amelia Vanderneit. In the 19thminute Clarence had a chance to equalise, with Emma Hall running down the right. Hall’s cross found Jessica Downham in the middle, but the Reds’ number nine hit just wide. Not long after and the Warriors were celebrating their second goal, with Maddie Chambers hitting home. Chambers skipped around Vanderneit before hitting the ball into the back of the net, moving the score to 2-0. In the 23rdminute Vanderneit produced two great saves in a row to deny the Warriors, however they would soon score another. This time it was Bonnie Davies adding her name to the scoresheet. The chance came from Chambers producing a great run down the left, she then cut the ball back into the path of Davies who finished well, extending the home side’s lead to 3-0. Nine minutes later and the home side found the back of the net again, this time through Chambers. This goal was set up after a brilliant through ball from Innocent Michael. This through ball cut through the Reds defence and found Chambers who made no mistake, moving the score to 4-0. Just two minutes later the Warriors found goal number five, with Bonnie Davies scoring her second. This goal was set up by a great Olivia Bomford pass, with Davies striking well. Davies didn’t have to wait long to complete her hat-trick, with another chance coming in the 38thminute. This one was set up by Chambers, with the Olympia number 7 crossing the ball into the box. This ball made its way through the crowded area to Bonnie Davies, who completed her hattrick and moved the score to 6-0 at half time. The second half began quicker than the first, with the Warriors scoring in the first minute. Jade Williams, played the ball back across the box to Davies, who scored her fourth goal of the game. Three minutes later and Chambers had also completed her hattrick, charging down the ball before slotting it past the keeper, putting her side up 8-0. Not long after this goal was scored and the Warriors had another, winning the ball from a Clarence kick off. Williams charged down the left then played the ball across the box to Davies who finished well. In the 53rdminute Jade Williams turned from provider to goal scorer when Olivia Bomford played her through. Williams then hit the back of the net, for her first goal of the day, seeing the score go to 10-0. After a period of some good Olympia possession, they broke through again as Heather Russell was the beneficiary, striking her first of the game and extending the lead to 11-0. Over the next ten minutes Clarence produced some good attacks of their own, notably substitute Nicola Davie and Jessica Downham combining well in the 65thminute. However, they couldn't find a way to break through and it was Olympia who would strike next. Second half substitute Bianca Parker got her first goal of the game, finishing a Chambers cross before three minutes later Olivia Bomford scored her second, producing a superb finish. Five minutes after this, she too had secured a hat-trick, firing home truly to move the score to 14-0. In the 88thminute Bianca Parker found herself on the end of a great through ball and the substitute made no mistake, scoring her second of the game then completing her hattrick in stoppage time and seeing the Warriors complete a 16-0 win. Speaking post-match Olympia Coach Alistair Russell was “really happy” with the performance. He identified that he wanted his side to do what they did in training and he believed when they did that they would get a good result, as they did today. Clarence coach Chris Chalker was disappointed with the performance and identified a lack of match fitness along with having a few key players missing as a reason for the score line. He was “amazed with the spirit of the girls”, saying “we played our best football when we were 12 or 13 down”. The win sees Olympia remain undefeated on top of the ladder. Next weekend will see the sides in Statewide Cup action before WSL action returns in a fortnight when Olympia take on the Hobart Zebras and Clarence will face Kingborough.
