Warriors Eventually Break Through Red Wall

It was a brave defensive shift from Clarence today, but Olympia have come out winners after scoring three second half goals to give them a 3-0 win away at Wentworth Park. Clarence keeper Amelia Vanderniet played the game of her life today, making save after save but it wasn't enough to keep out the Warriors who eventually broke her defence. The first real action of the day came from Zara Dixon who cleared Olympia's Innocent Michael's shot off the line after Vanderniet ran out to clear the danger in the 16th minute. Speaking of clearing the line, Vanderniet was called into action shortly after when Bonnie Davies's shot almost landed home but the Clarence keeper claimed the ball right before it was over. Half time came and the Warriors were wondering what they needed to do to get a goal. Vanderniet was playing out of her skin and Dixon was leading her defence strongly. The Warriors had generated 15 shots on target, but converted o! Olympia finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute. Jade Williams played through Madi Chambers who made no mistake nailing it home inside the box. Super Sub Charlotte Chambers then made a name for herself by bagging the Warriors second shortly after. Chambers made a great run down the wing and eased past the Clarence defence, before slotting it past Vanderniet with a quality finish to boot. Davies would put the icing on the cake in the final moments of play, picking out in the far right corner off the goa; calmly for her 14th goal of the season. It sealed a 3-0 win that came as some relief after the scoreless first 68 minutes of play. After the match Olympia Manager Alistair Russell was pleased with his team's result. "Clarence defended really deep, difficult to break down, but we were patient and got the result in the end." "Jade Williams put in some great balls, overall great team performance" That win puts Olympia right in the driving seat for the WSL title with their closest challenger Hobart Zebras only coming away from Ulverstone with a point in another 3 goal comeback. Although a slender 3 point lead at the top, you can bet this title race is far from over with Zebras still hot on the Warriors tail.
