The Olympia Warriors produced an emphatic performance at Lightwood Park on Sunday as they cruised to a massive 6-0 victory over the Kingborough Lions to make it two wins from two Super League Games to start the season.
The Warriors got off to a fast start as a heavy touch from the Lions keeper Erika Mackintosh let in Bonnie Davies who pounced and fired the Warriors ahead with the games first shot.
That lead was almost erased soon thereafter if not for a strong save from Jenna Farrow to keep out a powerful Laura Davis shot, in what would prove a rare occasion where the Lions star striker was able to find some space to operate in finding herself kept in check from then on.
After Davies and Cane couldn't take chances that fell their way, Leah Gubb let fly from 30 yards out with a snap shot as she spied the keeper off her line and it paid off, lobbing into the back of the net and doubling the Warriors lead.
She almost repeated the trick a couple of minutes later and had the keeper dead to rights, only for it to pitch just in front of the goals and take a sharp turn right to spin past the post. A third long range hit then drew a good fingertip save from the keeper as Gubb continued to pepper her from range every chance she got.
There would be no further scoring in the first half as the Lions headed into the break 2-0 down but not out of it, and needing a spark.
It was Olympia who looked the sharper out of the sheds however and only a fine pair of kick saves from Mackintosh denying Cane and Davies kept it at 2-0.
An injury to Christabelle Moore when she copped a nasty knock to the head running into Charlotte Chambers saw her day come to an end, and without her gritty presence in midfield the Warriors began to completely swamp the younger lions side.
Inocent Michael was utterly dominant bossing the middle of the park, breaking up attacks and playing some lovely long range through balls. One of them sprung Mia Cane in behind who this time took her chance with a well placed shot to make it 3-0.
The Lions were starting to lag badly, clearly out of legs and the Warriors ran all over them as the game ticked towards full time.
After a number of chances went begging to produce the games fourth goal, Michael then took it upon herself to produce it, as she waltzed past a defender into the box before firing home at the near post.
The Warriors added a further two goals before the final whistle as the Lions as Olivia Bomford got a deserved goal of her own, before Davies completed the route with a sharply hit first time effort to finish off the excellent Sophie Leszczynski's cross and see the Warriors run out 6-0 victors.
