The Olympia F.C Warriors were too strong for the Kingborough Lions, as they comfortably accounted for them 5-0 in their Round 19 Super League clash at Warrior Park. The Warriors took the lead early on and never looked troubled, as they set the stage for next week's title decider with the Hobart Zebras.
Entering them game knowing they needed just a point, all three were clearly on the agenda for the Warriors, who bossed the first half and controlled the midfield battle.
Madi Chambers was once again looming as the major threat and it was no surprise when she opened the scoring on 20 minutes, given far too much time and space as she carried the ball into the 6 yard box before placing her shot past Gardner.
Olivia Bomford then doubled the advantage as she bent a free kick from just outside the box, through the hands of the keeper and into the back of the net.
Already down a pair of goals, the departure of Emille Tatton, who had looked the Lions most lively outlet proved a further blow to their cause, and they were soon facing a three goal deficit just before half time.
Chambers charged into the box again and with the defence sitting of her, was afforded time to turn onto her left foot which she duly did, and unleashed a perfect shot into the top corner of the net to make it 3-0 at the break.
Olympia could have extended their lead from the penalty spot early in the second half, but Gardner kept out Bomford's spot kick before getting down to deny Chambers on the follow up, completing a sharp double save.
Just past the hour mark it was Chambers on the score sheet again, this time of the Charlotte variety. Madi Chambers did the damage down the left, tearing the length of the wing before crossing for the striker to place home and make it 4-0.
With the game won and no prospect of catching the Zebras goal differential, the game rather went through the motions as the second half wore on. Then in stoppage time, up stepped Bomford again with a thumping free kick that beat Gardner and secured the 5-0 win.
The victory leaves the Warriors clear on top ahead of the Zebras clash with South Hobart. If the Zebras win, then Olympia will need to win that final day clash, should they slip up then a draw would suffice.
