The Olympia Warriors unleashed the smack down on University as they moved to the top of the Super League after 4 rounds with a thumping 9-0 win at Warrior Park on Sunday.
The Warriors brilliant midfield duo of Olivia Bomford and Inocent Michael again did the bulk of the damage, as Bomford continued her red hot form as she hit a hat-trick (and maybe a fourth), whilst Michael bagged two of the games first 3 goals. The Warriors had a 2-0 lead inside the first five minutes of the game as they bossed the contest from start to finish to secure top spot on the table after 4 weeks.
Had you arrived at this game a couple of minutes late then you would have missed the first two goals as Olympia took command with a quickfire double.
Inocent Michael kick-started the procession with a superb left footed volley ghosting in at the back post from the corner and meeting Bomford's corner with a thunderous hit. Moments later the Warriors stole the ball in the middle of the park and Mia Cane slid a ball through for Davies who placed it home.
The early goals dented the visitors confidence and Olympia were in complete control, running the game and doing all of the attacking.
Michael then bagged her second as she pounced on a moment's hesitation at the back from the Bees defence and stormed in behind to finish.
The fourth was credited to Charlotte Chambers by the referee, but a closer look at the replay suggests that she didn't make contact with her attempted glancing header at the near post and that Bomford perhaps scored directly from the corner, or at least that is how it appears in this reporters estimation, one for the dubious goal's committee, (perhaps in multiple ways as I'm also not entirely convinced the whole ball ever actually crossed the line) but either way, Bomford's impact on the scoreboard on this game was only just beginning.
There was no doubt about her next one, (or first) as Madi Chambers laid it back to her and she curled in a sublime effort from 20 yards that picked out the top corner to make it 5-0 at the break.
Bomford got the second half scoring going when Steele punched the ball straight to her in the penalty area and from close range she was never going to miss.
Then it was time for the reigning MVP to open her scoring account for the season, with Madi Chambers curling one from distance that the keeper couldn't keep a hold of, to chalk up her first goal of the campaign before Bomford bobbed up in the box yet again to make it 8-0.
With the game firmly settled University were able to create a couple of chances as the Warriors relentless pressure let up, but it wouldn't lead to any goals and the Warriors ultimately ended up adding further emphasis to the score as Leah Gubb got in on the act.
The Kiwi met Bomford's cross with a firm header to pick out the bottom corner and wrap up a comfortable 9-0 win.
The big victory sends the Warriors to the top of the table and maintain their perfect start to the campaign as they prepare for next week's huge showdown with the Clarence Zebras, where a win would give them a 5 point buffer.
