2020: Round 4: Ulverstone 1 - 1 Clarence Zebras

Match Primer

Ulverstone remain the only team in the competition outside of Olympia to take points off Clarence Zebras this season. There’s little doubt the circumstances of the game will stoke hope of a repeat. The Eastern Shore team have secured second place, while Ulverstone require an upset here to slip into third. With the number of matches dwindling, this is the chance for the North West side. The previous two matches were decided in the midfield, there’s little doubt it won’t be a repeat in round 14. The first encounter was a hungry, tightly controlled affair by Ulverstone to earn a draw, the second was an Allie Berry special for Clarence Zebras with the Wentworth Park wind playing havoc. With both sides tinkering with their systems late into the season, this match looks up for grabs. Having something to play for means this is Ulverstone’s game to win. Clarence Zebras have shown throughout the season they are the steady pick, knowing how to win games. However a tough mid-week encounter against South could result could see Clarence Zebras left a little shaken. Either way, the current form of both clubs suggest this won’t be a high scoring affair but with the Wentworth Park wind, expect the unexpected but it remains the Zebras to lose.

2020: Summer Cup Round 1: South Hobart 3-2 Kingborough Lions

Match Primer

If you pick one encounter of the round, this is it. It’s a rub of your hands, Christmas dinner has arrived type anticipation. The battle for third place is coming down to the wire. It’s a complicated situation, but the winner of this duel will be in the box seat to finish the season in third bar an upset at Wentworth Park. The team to lose will likely sink to fifth spot and finish there, with fellow pack member Ulverstone to meet the competition cellar dwellers in the final round. Throughout the season South Hobart has shown depth in their squad, with frequent changes to the starting XI. Kingborough has drawn on a pool of youth this season, but they are in the midst of a busy stretch of schedule that could bring on some tired legs. The Round 9 meeting saw South dominate the first half before the Lions swung the pendulum for the second half but were unable to find what was needed to overturn the 2 goal deficit.  Ultimately this is a match where experience is required. Both can play good football when needed. The incentive of third place is enough, so they should arrive hungry. The Lions have shown they’re willing to learn and this is perhaps their most important moment of the season to show what they’ve picked up. While South Hobart need to demonstrate they can put teams to the sword late into the match and won’t want to lose it late in a repeat of mid-week misadventure against Clarence Zebras of being pipped at the post.

2020: Round 9: University 1-6 Olympia

2020: Round 4: Olympia 9 - 0 University

2018: Promotion Play Off Match: University 0-6 Olympia

Match Primer

Motivation from both ends will come into play between the clubs staring at opposite ends of the table. Olympia has now hoisted the trophy high into the air at Kingborough, now is for the after party at Warrior Park. For University it’s a matter of damage control and simply finishing the season. Last time out University had a loose grip of opportunity with an early red card and resulting penalty. However, a ten player Olympia still finished with a ruthless 6-1 romp. Even if the Warriors arrive with a touch of complacency, history suggests they have more than enough in the bag to conquer the Bees. The simple problem of containing a goal hungry Bonnie Davies is the peril of every defence this season. Considering how many goals University have leaked and the few they’ve scored in reply, the balance is overwhelmingly in the Champions favour.
