Match Primer

The hype surrounding this match has been dampened a touch due to a midweek match making third place unattainable for Ulverstone, leaving little more than pride for both teams to battle for. The fixture stands as the sole Round 15 game left to be played. The competitions other sides completed their seasons with fixture reshuffles to open up this weekend for Statewide Cup clashes. Both University and Ulverstone were knocked out in previous rounds. To really go out with a bang, ideally there will be plenty of goals and an end to end affair to talk about. Previous encounters have produced an element of end to end, with quick counter attacks the favoured approach. However the reality is, both teams have struggled to score a bucket load of goals this season. For the Bees it’s been a struggle to create opportunities on the ball, instead often limited to high turnovers or penalties to score. On the other hand, crafting opportunities is something the Reds have been more successful at, but the final ball and shot has been more difficult to pull off. The better indicator of the game will be defences. University have conceded double that of Ulverstone this season. The Bees have struggled to deal with overloads on the flanks and gaps at the back post. While Ulverstone have proved more stingy and organised off the ball. It’s difficult to see University end the season by breaking their winless streak but this is their final chance to chalk up a win. While Ulverstone go in as favourites, the Reds remain the only team to give up points to the Bees this season and they won’t want a repeat as they will leap frog South Hobart in fourth place with a win.
