Match Primer

Throw your mind back to round two, where both these teams put a point on the board in what was a come from behind performance from the hosts. There’s every chance of a repeat of that in what should be another tight encounter. However the interesting element to this one is the contrasts between Ulverstone and University, even if wins have been difficult to come by for both. In attack, University’s ability to hit the counter with pace has been their key producer of goals. The decision to press high in patches of opportunity has also assisted the Bees, drawing similarities to Ulverstone’s front line. That’s where the similarity ends, with Ulverstone full of creativity and combinations, but lacking the pace to terrify defences.  The Reds boast a stingy defence, claiming their first clean sheet of the season against Kingborough last weekend. It’s a different story for University, unfortunately leaking goals with the most conceded in the competition. Home side advantage and the Bees defensive woes should provide Ulverstone with the opportunity to make it two wins from two here.

2020: Round 2: South Hobart 0 - 4 Clarence Zebras

Match Primer

Second against third place is always a tantalising prospect. This weekend provides South Hobart another opportunity to match it with another one of the competition favourites, following a loss at the hands of current leaders Olympia last weekend. Clarence Zebras seemingly have learnt their lesson in taking less fancied teams for granted, with a convincing win over University last weekend. The tinkering of formations last weekend could provide the unpredictable in this encounter. If Zebras continue to favour attacking play, it could ruffle some feathers in South’s defence. Goals seemingly at the ready on the back of last weekend. While the teaching opportunity against Olympia could see South Hobart tighten things through the centre of the pitch. Pace on the flanks, and an early ball could also be successful against a CZ defence that’s looked fallible at points this season. Last time out Georgia McMullen was the standout, producing saves on command to deny Clarence running away with the lead. The goalkeeper is coming into this encounter on the back of fine form, with any hope of South Hobart keeping the floodgates of goals shut resting on McMullens shoulders. The opportunity for South Hobart to throw themselves into the fray of an outside title chance is at hand, but Clarence Zebras has the tools at its disposal to pour water on any of those hopes.

2019: Round 19: Olympia 5-0 Kingborough

Match Primer

Last time out, Kingborough had a rude awakening at the hands of Olympia and success has eluded them since. Olympia continues to go from stride to stride this season, so far unchallenged in this season's conquests. Differing fortunes places the Warriors on the front foot in this encounter, but the youth and one game changer means the Lions shouldn’t be underestimated. Perhaps the key to changing the Lions immediate fortunes is the return of Olivia Gardner in goals. The stability and organisation as a product of the inclusion saw the Lions return to their structured best. A repeat in the disciplined approach for Kingborough at Warrior Park could spell problems for Olympia in breaking their opponents down. The experience of the Warriors midfield ought to ease any fears though, with the pressure and movement in this area of the park capable of overrunning the Lions. While Kingborough will be hoping to dismiss fears of conceding errant goals, the Warriors showed last weekend against South Hobart it has the capability of pulling out quality when called upon. So far this season, Olympia has produced when under the pump to do so. It will take something special to prevent another repeat seeing a Warriors win.
