The Glenorchy Knights have made it 3 wins on the bounce as a Thomas Young hat-trick helped fire them to a 5-2 win over Clarence Zebras. After going behind to an early Matt Pace strike, the Knights attack ran rampant, as Young hit the back of the net three times in a glistening attacking display.
The match started with all the pressure and forward play being driven by Knights with the Zebras more than happy to sit back and wait for opportunity.
That opportunity came knocking in the 10th minute when Knight's defender Jack Bowman mistimed his pass and handed the ball to Zebras forward Matthew Pace. True to his name, Pace bolted into the box one on one with keeper Lachlan Hart, and slammed it into the bottom left for a surprise lead.
Nick Naden then got the Knights back on level terms in the 32nd minute after a corner was headed back into a dangerous area where Naden got boot to ball and volleyed home to restore parity.
One quickly became two as Alessandro Bellini sent in a fantastic cross to Thomas Young at the back post. The unmarked Young finished with force and Knights had turned it all around before the break.
Alex Walter and Joffery N'Koso then combined wonderfully for the third as the backheeled pass from Walter found Young who produced a tidy finish to give the Knights a 3-1 buffer at half-time.
The stats at half-time told a resounding tale. Granted Zebras were the away side but they had only managed two shots in the first 45 minutes while Knights had already reached double figures.
Early in the second half, Young had his hat-trick. Jack Bowman launched a great cross to the waiting Alex Walter. Walter dribbled further into the box and sent a low cross to Young who made no mistake past keeper Joshua Jones, who was again favoured in net over Nick O'Connell by coach Dave Smith.
Jake Thompson was able to bring the margin back down to two goals after pouncing onto a clumsy error from Connor Schmidt. Hart somehow outdid Schmidt's error with a howler of his own as the ball went through his legs and allowed Thompson to stroll into an open net, which he was never going to miss.
Riley Dillion then erased any hope of a comeback with his back pass going straight to Walter. Walter was able to compose himself and finish into the bottom left to round out the scoring in the 5-2 victory.
The Knights have now won three in a row and their next game will be a road trip up to Windsor Park v Riverside Olympic. The Zebras will be back at home at Wentworth Park up against the first placed Devonport Strikers.
