Following two years without a national championship competition due to COVID, Tasmania’s most talented junior footballers have been selected to represent the state and put their best foot forward for national selection.
Tasmanian squads were announced today to travel to Coffs Harbour to compete in the Under 14 and 16 Girls and Under 14 and 15 Boys tournaments in late September.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was great to have Tasmanian junior teams back performing on the national stage after COVID forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 championships.
“Representing your state is one of the highest honours a young player can have, and I congratulate all the girls and boys for their selection,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“It’s been a difficult two years for our most talented players with COVID cancellations of the championships, and it’s great they will once again have a chance to showcase their skills on the national stage.
“The players will not only be competing to do the very best for their team and Tasmania, but also put their best foot forward in front of national team selectors and talent identification scouts.
“I’m sure they will all do our state and football community very proud, and you never know, the next Tasmanian Young Matilda or Socceroo may be uncovered.
“On behalf of Football Tasmania I’d also like to thank McDonald’s for their support of our junior state teams, and helping them get to Coffs Harbour.”
The 2022 National Youth Championships takes place in Coffs Harbour, with Under 14 and 16 Girls (19 – 23 September), and Under 14 and 15 Boys (26 – 30 September) competing for national honours.
