Hobart Zebras have taken South Hobart to the cleaners after completing a 10-0 win in their Saturday afternoon WSL clash at KGV.
Zebras manager Chris Hey was coaching from the stands today and it didn't make much difference to how lethal his side was today without him at the touchline.
The game started very strongly for Zebras when some good combination play from Lily Hulton and Allie Berry. Berry set up a cross for Zoe Nichols who was unmarked and she got on her right foot and nailed it home for the first of the day.
In the 11th minute Zebras were gifted a penalty when Berry was taken down in the box from a South defender. Up stepped Selina Stevenson who put the ball in the top right corner way out of South keeper Georgia McMullen's reach.
Taylor Rand then played a lovely ball to Lily Hulton, whose first shot did hit the upright but the rebound off the post favoured her and she slotted it the back of the net for the Zebras 3rd after 26 minutes.
It would be a defensive error that would give Zebras their next goal when Georgia Burt played through Zoe Nichols who made no mistake finishing it off.
Danielle Kannegeisser would then find herself on the score sheet when she got onto the delivery from Rand. Kannegeisser readied herself while outside the box and scored one of the goals of the season with an absolute cracker into the top left corner which had a heap of curl on it!
Kannegiesser bagged a second just before half time when Georgia Burt dribbled into the box and picked her out, finishinig it off to give the Zebras a 6-0 lead heading into half time.
Allie Berry got things going in the second half with a fine solo run, rounding the keeper and calmly finishing another goal for the home side.
Former Young Matilda Jessie Williams found herself back on the team sheet after a stint away with other endeavours, and she was introduced in the second half. Williams never looked out of place when she got onto a good through ball from Hulton and rounded the keeper before finishing to get her first goal upon her return.
The 9th goal was another Nichols masterclass when she carried the ball through midfield, then fed Berry at the top of the box who finished off another great team goal for the Zebras.
Williams would finish proceedings as she buried another goal home for her brace when McMullen again ran out and left a open net for her to pick out.
After the game Hobart Zebras manager Chris Hey praised his team "tremendous football played today, combining passes, Jessie hasn't kicked a ball for 9 months but she adds a lot, what she did was tremendous, DK supporting well and special mention to Isabelle Ferrier slotting into full back."
The win leaves the Hobart Zebras in second place, a point behind Olympia who they will meet next Saturday in a crunch encounter.
