Zebras Fire Past South

A series of stunning goals have helped fire the Clarence Zebras to a 4-0 win over South Hobart at Darcy Street. The win keeps the newly formed side on top of the table as they maintained their unbeaten start in all competitions to the 2020 season. The opening twenty minutes saw the Zebras getting on top in the midfield battle but not creating much from it, with a Zoe Nichols shot from range the lone chance to come from it. It was Louisa Marmion who would find the breakthrough and she did so in style. A cross from Burt on the right was well controlled by Nichols in the penalty area, flicking it up to Marmion who belted home a thunderous volley to open the scoring. That goal seemed to spark South Hobart into action and they started to get the ball in the final third for the first time in the game, however two promising attacks were shut down by the imperious Zara Dixon. Having set up the first Nichols then scored a goal of her own, pouncing on a loss ball in the box after a free kick had been swung in by Georgia Burt to make it 2-0. Burt was pulling the strings in midfield masterfully as her and Bronte Gadon really helped the Zebras control the game, putting up a midfield wall and winning the ball back regularly. When South did find a way through the midfield they found themselves being stopped by the imposing duo of Steventon and Dixon who were marshaling the defence well, doing a good job seeing off the threat posed by Pichon Choi and Charlotte Ingram who had some promising moments, but couldn't find the end product as the game reached half time at 2-0. The second half saw a flurry of chances arriving early for the Zebras but Georgia Mcmullen stood up tremendously in the South Hobart goals. The South Hobart keeper made three saves in quick succession, doing well to deny efforts from Nichols and a well hit Georgia Burt free kick before somehow scrambling across to make a huge leg save when Nichols seemed all but certain to score. Ultimately the pressure would tell as the game wore on as Bronte Gadon eventually proved her undoing with a superbly taken chipped shot after a sharp one-two in the lead up. Isabelle Ferrier then rounded out the scoring with a quality strike of her own, taking a touch at the top of the box before picking out the bottom corner of the goals in yet another top quality strike from this match. It ensured a 4-0 win for the Super League favourites who now turn their attention to the Kingborough Lions next Sunday.Whilst having played the top two sides in the competition in the first fortnight South will be looking to chalk up their first points when they take on University. https://youtu.be/HIEAzjHwhkU
