The Hobart Zebras are fast becoming the Comeback Queens of the Women's Super League. For a second week in a row they were staring down the barrel of a 3-0 deficit, and for the second week in a row they launched a stunning fightback to claim a 3-3 draw.
Whilst they couldn't turn this one into a win, the point they earned may well prove a crucial one in the context of the season, as the Zebras still control their destiny in the title race if they can win their remaining games. They now trail the Warriors by 3 points, with five games remaining each. The sides will of course meet on the final day of the season, but with a decisive goal differential advantage, a Zebras win would be enough if each side were to win out.
Again this was a game that seemed to have slipped away from them as Ulverstone flew out to a 3-0 lead. After a scoreless opening 25, two goals in two minutes blew the game open with the hosts doing the damage.
Lucy Reimer provided the opening goal before Meghan Gaffney doubled that lead from their very next attack. When Lucy Foote fired home as the game ticked towards half time it seemed like the Reds were going deal the Zebras title hopes a major blow.
But Allie Berry would score the goal that provided a pulse just before half time to pull it back to 3-1 and after last week's effort the belief was clearly their.
When Berry bagged her brace midway through the second half the Zebras were right back in it at 3-2 and hopes of another miraculous comeback were sparked.
The half dragged on but neither side could find another goal despite the chances flowing as the game ticked into stoppage time.
It seemed like time was going to run out on them, but in the 90th minute it was Jesse Williams, the hero a week prior, who again made a dramatic late intervention. She found the crucial goal to knot it up at 3-3 and secure what could prove an absolutely pivotal point in the title race.
