Zebras Storm Home To Sink South

Hobart Zebras flexed their muscle in WSL action today, scoring six goals and comfortably defeating a battling South Hobart side at KGV. In what was truly a game of two halves, South Hobart looked good coming into the half time break on level terms, however a dominant final 20 minutes saw five goals and a red card, all in favour of the home side. The game was blown open after just six minutes when Lily Hulton was played in on goal and slid her effort under the advancing McMullen to give the Zebras the lead. Danielle Kannegeisser dictated the play for Zebras from her wide position and created a number of chances but despite their early goal, Zebras lacked a finishing touch. Steventon sent the crowd into raptures when she chipped McMullen from the half way line and found the back of the net, only to see it ruled out for offside after an earlier ball into Hulton was flagged. Just a minute later, on the quarter of an hour mark, Choi found herself through on goal in what would become the first of many chances for the South Hobart striker. Despite seeing her first shot blocked, the follow up was calmly put home to get South on level terms. South Hobart only really had one more clear chance in the first half when Choi was again lining up against Cook but this time she put her attempt wide from 18 yards. Zebras were sloppy in possession and gave the ball away time and time again, much to the frustration of coach Chris Hey who was audibly worked up over his side's refusal to work back in defence. This opened the floodgates as Zebras found their killer touch and just a minute later Zoe Nichols scored again for the home team. Her first shot was blocked by McMullen but trickled through on goal and Nichols emphatically powered her follow-up into the empty net. In the 75th minute Fagan scored her second to secure her brace and give her side a comfortable lead coming into the final fifteen minutes. Allie Berry got in on the scoring in the 80th minute as she powered home a volley to increase the lead to 5-1 and then South Hobart captain Eleni Moutsatsos received marching orders in the form of a red card following a strange turn of events.  Allie Berry was first shown the yellow card for what seemed to be dissent toward the linesman and then after a couple of minutes of confusion, Moustastos was also shown the card meaning a red was soon to follow after her early booking. Right before the close Nichols got her second as she cleverly rounded the 'keeper and slotted home for her second on the night. Following the win, Zebras stay within touching distance of Olympia Warriors at the top of the table after their title rivals also secured a win today. South Hobart look to their next match in order to find their breakthrough points for the 2019 season. [caption id="attachment_10391" align="alignnone" width="615"] Solstice Photography[/caption]
