The Hobart Zebras comfortably took care of Clarence United 8-0 on Wednesday night, cutting the gap to Olympia at the top of the table to just a single point.
The first goal of the night came courtesy of Allie Berry, after Zoe Nichols delivered a lovely through ball down the wing. Berry made no mistake finishing into the bottom right corner. That goal was Berry's 10th WSL goal of the season.
A mere two minutes later Clarence again fumbled possession in the defence and Zoe Nichols went from assisting goals to scoring as she took her aim inside the box and buried the ball past Amelia Vanderniet, into the right corner of the net again.
On the 15 minute mark the Zebras were on the attack again and Nichols got herself a brace by capitalising on a failed clearance from Zara Dixon. Nichols dribbled into the box and hit the ball with power and whilst Vanderniet did get a hand on it, the power of the shot won out as the ball went over the line before Vanderniet could get back.
In the 22nd minute Lily Hulton scored a wonder goal when she found the space down the wing and took aim from outside of the box. The ball sailed directly over poor Vanderniet who I can safely say was not expecting that cross come to turn shot.
The second half began with some injury woes for Clarence when Danielle Kannegiesser cleaned up Clarence defender Caitlyn Maundrill when attacking the ball. Maundrill was down for sometime but thankfully walked off the knock before being replaced.
Lily Hulton then completed a brace of her own with a fantastic goal from midfield. She carried it into the box and her shot hit the cross bar on the way, but it bounced in for the Zebras's 5th of the game.
Kannegiesser then joined in the scoring party when she received a great through ball from Berry and she made no mistake slotting it home into the bottom left for another great team goal.
The 68th minute saw a goal from a corner but not how you would think. Georgia Burt whipped in the ball right to the right corner of Vanderniet, she got a hand on it but the power was all that was needed for the ball to slip out of her hands and into the net.
The final goal of the night was from Berry again who completed her brace when she found herself one on one with the keeper and picked out the right side of the net brilliantly.
After the match Hobart Zebras coach Chris Hey said " games like that you need to be disciplined and patient on the ball, Allie is playing her best football at the moment, few injuries at the moment, Kayla Mason has a knee problem, Shelley Cook injured, Rachel Gill came on late but she's got a knee issue and Georgia Burt is also carrying a knee injury".
