Federal Labor Pledge $1.5 Million For Lightwood Park

The Australian Federal Labor Party has pledged $1.5 million in facilities funding for Lightwood Park if they are elected at the upcoming Federal election. The commitment will help fund the construction of new facilities including new change-rooms, toilets, showers, a physio area, referee's rooms and a medical treatment room. Federal Labor MP Julie Collins announced the funding at Lightwood Park on Saturday afternoon and said she was glad to announce the commitment of funds that would provide important health benefits to the community "The Kingborough Lions are already the biggest community Soccer Club in Tasmania with over 600 members and is experiencing incredible growth in its membership, particularly with new female players as more Tasmanian's take up the World Game." "Our investment in local community sporting clubs and facilities like Lightwood Park will help communities build capacity to meet the welcome growth in female participation in club sport and support more Tasmanian's live active, healthy lifestyles." Kingborough Lions President Warren Isles paid credit to the volunteers at the club who helped push for the funding. "We've rapidly outgrown what we've had here. It's a real validation for all of our volunteers and the people who worked really hard on identifying the issues and the potential solutions we have." Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley welcomed the commitment and hoped it was a sign of things to come.
"We’re very appreciative of the Labor Party's pledge to upgrade the facilities at Lightwood Park and congratulate Warren and everyone involved at the Kingborough Lions in helping secure the funding."
"This funding will help make Lightwood Park very much a ‘southern hub’ for football in what continues to be a significant area of growth for us. It’s really pleasing to see that the levels of investment are now starting to more accurately reflect our popularity and overwhelming participation numbers." "Football Tasmania is hopeful that this is the first of a number of commitments we can secure ahead of the election, as we have a number of infrastructure projects around the state that require funding. There are a number of our clubs who find themselves in a similar predicament to Kingborough, where they have simply outgrown their current infrastructure and need that investment in order to continue to grow the game."
