Lakoseljac Cup: Devonport v South Hobart, 2:00pm, KGV
Statewide Vase: Olympia Warriors v University, 4:30pm, KGV
The 2018 Statewide Cup Finals are upon us with a huge long weekend of Football coming up at KGV Football Park. On Friday night, see the future today, when Olympia and South Hobart meet in the Under 20 Statewide Cup Final showcasing some of the brightest young talent in the game.
Taroona FC have claimed the Women’s Statewide Cup as they defeated the Kingborough Lions 3-1 in the decider. Zoe Horgan converted an early penalty before a goal from the winner of the best on ground award, Lily Hulton, gave the Pirates a 2 goal lead heading into half time. Having been outplayed for much of the second half, the Lions then produced a late rally as Laura Davis pulled one back, ensuring a tense finish. Then in the 91st minute, Adelyn Ayton stepped up and scored an absolute stunner from 35 yards, crashing in off the post to seal the victory in style.
The Devonport Strikers have claimed their second Lakoseljac Cup triumph in 3 years, downing South Hobart 1-0 just as they did back in 2016. This time it was Miles ‘The Fox in the Box’ Barnard living up to his name by poking home from close range in the first half to score the games lone goal.
Spaniard, Guillermo Lazcano, was adjudged the best afield for an utterly dominant display in the heart of defence, as the Strikers held out against a late South Hobart push to claim the victory.
