The MyState Bank Women’s Super League has made its long-awaited return with an entertaining opening weekend of fixtures produced. The top players in the state were eager to leave their mark on the new season and make an early statement, with some fine individual displays standing out. Whilst it’s never wise to overreact or make too many snap judgements from just one weekend’s worth of results, it’s fair to say there was plenty to take away from this opening set of fixtures.
The defending champions Launceston United looked every bit as sharp as they…

Welcome to the Friday forecast for Week 2 of the NPL Tasmania season. After a thoroughly entertaining opening weekend let’s hope for more of the same this week, with more close games on the scoreboard as sides look to build on their opening round performances. For sides like South Hobart and Knights, Round 2 represents a chance to maintain a perfect start but their respective opponents in Clarence Zebras and Launceston City demonstrated last week that they will be much improved in 2023 and they pose particularly tough obstacles. Both Riverside and the Lions will be…
Welcome to the Friday forecast for Week 2 of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League season. The opening weekend saw no shortage of action, with some close games and wonderful individual performances getting us started in style. We have our first impressions of sides, but one week is nowhere near enough sample size to get an adequate read on the teams just yet. Overreacting to week 1 seldom tends to end well after all.
Round 2 will get underway on Saturday with Devonport and South Hobart keen to put their best foot forward as title contenders, before Taroona take on…
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up for Round 2 of the McDonald's NPL Tasmania season. It was a rather contrasting weekend of football with two complete blowouts up North and two absolute thrillers in the South that went down to the final minutes.
The Strikers bounced back with a big win which wasn’t entirely unexpected, this is generally not a side you want to play coming off a bad result and Launceston United learned that the hard way as they fell to a heavy 6-1 loss. The Lions also had a thumping win, burying Riverside 5-1 with the reigning Best and Fairest winner…
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up for Round 2 of the Super League season. It was a tightly fought week 2 with some close contests and one of the more entertaining games we are likely to see all season taking place over at Darcy Street.
In what would live up to its billing as the game of the round, South Hobart mounted a furious late fightback to pull off a stunning rescue job and recover from three goals down to draw 3-3 with the Devonport Strikers. The Champions, Launceston United continued to open their title defence in the perfect fashion as they downed the Kingborough Lions by a pair of…

Welcome to the Friday Forecast ahead of Round 3 of the NPL Tasmania. It’s still early days but we seem to have a tight season developing and the early indicators are that the defending champions Devonport may not have it all their own way this time around. This looks an interesting round on paper with some clashes that should be closely fought. The Strikers face the current leaders Launceston City in the game of the Round and they have the chance to reclaim top spot with a win. Both Riverside Olympic and Launceston United will look for their first points of the season as they play host two…
Welcome to the Friday forecast ahead of Round 3 of the Women’s Super League season. It’s been an entertaining start to the season on the pitch, with some compelling clashes lit up by a few truly stunning goals. The recently revived Goal of the Year competition is certainly going to be quite the highlights reel at season’s end. The same goes for Save of the year, where the league’s top glove women have excelled through the opening fortnight.
In terms of team performances, you’d have to say that on the whole the competition has looked remarkably equal so far. The…
Welcome to the Weekend-Washup following Round 3 of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League. It was a weekend where the main title contenders all made major statements. The current leaders Launceston United did so by digging deep to overcome the Clarence Zebras 4-2 having fallen behind early in the second half. If you haven’t already, go check out the goal highlights package from that game, it will be well worth your while as there were some truly incredible strikes.
South Hobart found their goalscoring boots against Taroona by storming to a thumping 9-0 win and…
Welcome to the Weekend-Washup for Round 3 of the McDonald’s NPL Tasmania. It was an entertaining weekend of action, but it was also one filled with the type of storylines that would be very familiar to followers of the league.
The Devonport Strikers reestablished themselves atop the standings by displacing Launceston City with a 2-0 win at Valley Road. As they have done so many times in these big games, they just took care of business with a minimum fuss and when the final whistle rang out they were back in the position they’ve frequently occupied in recent seasons.
Launceston City FC has become the first Tasmanian club to receive a One Star rating in Football Australia’s Game Changer club development program, for their action plan around developing women and girls in football.
The award was presented today by Football Tasmania Board member Rachel Williams and Game Changer program officer Alan Eadie at the club’s home, Buckby Motors Park at Prospect.
Football Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Matt Bulkeley commended the club for its commitment to the program.
“In the year of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia…
We arrive at the Easter Long weekend which brings the traditional slew of local cup fixtures. This is always a weekend filled with exciting Cup action and it usually makes for one of the most interesting weekend’s on the local footballing calendar. Will it be a long weekend defined by the favourites advancing, or will we be treated to a Cupset or two?
Favourable Draws For NPL Sides in Lakoseljac Cup
The Lakoseljac Cup supported by McDonald’s reaches its Round of 16 stage. The competition also doubles as the Preliminary stages of the Australia Cup, with the eventual Lakoseljac Cup…
It was relatively smooth sailing for the NPL sides in the Round of 16 stage of the Lakoseljac Cup supported by McDonald's, with some thumping victories and no close games in sight.
The action kicked off on Friday night where the 2020 Cup champions Glenorchy Knights cruised to a 7-0 victory over Hobart City Beachside. Lucas Dzalakowski got the scoring started inside of five minutes and it was a sign of things to come, as he duly added another three goals to finish with a four-goal haul in the thumping.
Welcome to the Friday Forecast ahead of Round 4 of the McDonald’s NPL Tasmania season. After a week off for Cup action we return to the league where just a single point currently separates the top five sides. It’s tight at the top and whilst we will need a few more weeks to sort out the true contenders, for now, every match has the chance to dramatically alter the current standings.
Cup Quarters Drawn
The big story of the week concerns the Quarter Final draw for the Lakoseljac Cup supported by McDonald's which is the Preliminary Round 5 of the Australia Cup. With seven of the eight…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast ahead of Round 4 of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League. After a week off for the Women’s Statewide Cup, attention once again returns to the league where the defending Champions Launceston United are once again the hunted, sitting on top by 2 points. It should be a familiar feeling for United, given it was the position they were in for the bulk of the 2022 campaign. Hot on their heels are Devonport and South Hobart as the title race continues to take shape across these early rounds.
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up for another week as we take a look back on all the action in Round 4 of the McDonald’s NPL Tasmania. It was an exciting weekend of Football, with Knights and Launceston City claiming victories in wildly entertaining games and moving into second and third place respectively. The Clarence Zebras converted their strong early season play into their first victory as they downed Launceston United, whilst Devonport did as Devonport so often does and continued their winning streak by beating Riverside 5-1. The last time the Strikers lost in the league was Round 2 of…
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up following Round 4 of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League. It has finally happened; we officially have new ladder leaders! For the first time since Round 2 of last season, someone other than Launceston United is occupying the top spot on the Super League table at the conclusion of a round. That side is South Hobart after they produced a quality display to displace United with a 2-0 win. Hot on their heels are the Devonport Strikers, who continued their free-scoring ways by vanquishing Taroona 7-1. At KGV the Kingborough Lions claimed their first win of the…
Football Tasmania’s Talent Support Program (TSP) conducted four days of camps in Hobart last week.
The camps saw 114 players across Tasmania invited to attend in the Boys Under 13-14 and 15 age groups, and the girls Under 13 and 14 age groups, with each age group having a set day with TSP coaching staff.
During the camps, training sessions were combined with games which were beneficial for TSP Coaches to further identify areas that they had worked on, and need to work on with each age group moving forward.
In addition to this, a Zoom workshop was conducted with TSP Coaches…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast ahead of Round 5 of the McDonald’s NPL Tasmania season. This week looms as the most interesting set of fixtures across a round we have had to date. All four contests have no significant favourites unlike in previous weeks and any side winning any of these matches won’t really be considered an upset. It’s a week that should provide some closely fought games and potentially significant results in shaping the title race.
Lions and Knights Under Friday Night Lights
The Round will kick off at KGV on Friday night with the Kingborough Lions taking on the…
