Tonight’s Australia Cup fixture between Devonport Strikers and Wellington Phoenix at Valley Road will be a historic night for the world game in Tasmania, says Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley.
The Strikers’ Round of 32 fixture against Wellington will be the first time a Tasmanian side has played against A-League opponents in a competitive fixture, with a large crowd expected to flock to Valley Road.
“Valley Road will be the hottest ticket in Tasmania tonight and the Devonport Strikers and the broader Tasmanian football community will be up for the occasion,” Mr Bulkeley said.
Kingborough Lions United NPL Head Coach, Jez Kenth has decided to stand down at the end of the current 2022 NPL Tasmania season.
Jez Kenth took over the reins of the Kingborough Lions mid-season in 2019 and immediately brought stability to the Club’s NPL Program after numerous years of disruption with the dismissal and resignation of several coaches. ‘There is absolutely no doubt that Jez has created a strong inclusive culture and brought a sense of stability and calmness to our NPL program and steadied the ship to finish sixth in that first year and started to build the…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast for Round 17 as we reach the final stretch of the season following last weekend’s catch-up round. There have been a few fixtures played out since I last wrote, with several previously postponed games being played out and I believe we are now all caught up to where we should be.
The overall picture remains the same in terms of the title race, with Launceston United wobbling, but still firmly in the box seat. They face Devonport next week and may be happy to be sitting this weekend out to regroup after a pair of uncharacteristic performances from their past 2…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast for Round 17, as move ever closer to the finish line. There are just five weeks left in the season and whilst the title race is ultimately settled, the jostling for positions below is set to intensify this week. We start this week’s forecast however with some managerial news which was the story of the week.
Kenth To Depart the Den
The Kingborough Lion’s announced on Monday that their coach Jez Kenth will be finishing up in the top job at the end of the season. The Lions boss has decided to prioritize spending more time with his family after…
Welcome to the Weekend Washup for another week as we take a look back at the pair of games played out in the MyState Bank Women’s Super League this past weekend. With the Taroona v South Hobart game postponed due to the wild weather, we had just the two fixtures for the round taking place. On Friday night it was the Zebras who ensured the Lions wait for a top 4 scalp would continue with a comfortable 3-1 win before the Strikers took care of the improving Warriors with a 5-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Welcome to the Weekend Wash Up for another week as we take a look back on Round 17 of the NPL Tasmania. It was a weekend with relatively few surprises, though there were plenty of fireworks, in particular at Darcy Street where South Hobart downed Knights 5-3 in a fiery game that boiled over.
In the Friday night Derbies, Launceston City struck late to break Riverside hearts in a 2-2 draw whilst the Lions fought back from a goal down to overcome the Zebras 4-2 and move clear in third place. At the top of the table, it’s still all Devonport however, as they took another step towards…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast for another week as we preview Round 18 action in the McDonalds NPL Tasmania. The title could officially be won by the Strikers this weekend as they look to confirm their victory in front of home fans as they take on rivals Launceston City. Elsewhere Riverside have their best remaining chance at getting a breakthrough victory as they host Olympia and the Glenorchy Knights find themselves in dire need of a win to keep their hopes of a second-placed finish alive against the Clarence Zebras. On the Sunday that battle for second is set to intensify as South Hobart…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast for another week as we reach Round 18 of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League season. As we enter the final month of the year, we reach what looms as a defining day in the title race with a crunch fixture looming on Saturday at Valley Road. The Devonport Strikers will host the ladder-leading Launceston United in what looms as the last major obstacle between United and the silverware. A positive result here and they can just about celebrate, but if the red hot Strikers can continue their form, then a nervy final few weeks will await United as the race will…
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up for another week as we recap the action from Round 18 in the MyState Bank Women’s Super League. It was a weekend of games that has now set up a grandstand finish to the season as Launceston United relinquished their grip on top spot when they fell to Devonport and South Hobart took full advantage by downing the Kingborough Lions on Sunday. Elsewhere the Clarence Zebras took the points against Taroona in what was a far closer affair than the two previous meetings between the pair had offered up.
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-up for another week as we cast an eye back on Round 18 action in the McDonalds NPL Tasmania. It was a weekend headlined by the Devonport Strikers being coronated as the Kings of the NPL Tasmania once again, as they closed out the title race with a 2-0 win over Launceston City. It makes it five NPL titles in the last seven seasons for the side from the Portress, truly a remarkable effort. Elsewhere Riverside got their first win of the season with a stunning late fightback, the Lions were thwarted by a late penalty as they attempted to do similar against South…

Welcome to the Friday Forecast ahead of Round 19 in the MyState Bank Women’s Super League as we creep ever closer to the finish line. There are just three rounds left to play out as the title fight goes down to the wire. Can Launceston United turn around their recent form and close things out, or will they leave the door ajar for South Hobart, and if so, can South take advantage? It promises to be an intriguing finale to what has been a closely fought season, let’s take a look at what lies in store for this weekend.
Welcome to the Friday Forecast for another week as we hit Round 19 of the McDonalds NPL Tasmania competition. There is not long left to go now, and the title race is officially settled, but there are still some interesting plot points left to play out. South Hobart have seized control of second place on the table but they face a tough game this weekend against the Champions in Devonport. That could allow either the Lions or Knights to sneak back into contention in the final fortnight but they will need to be winning their games this week against Olympia and Launceston City for that to be any…
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up for another week as we hit the final fortnight of the 2022 season. The stage is set for a grandstand finish to the year after South Hobart stopped the Devonport Strikers winning streak to keep the pressure on Launceston United with a dramatic 2-1 victory. United for their part got the job done against Taroona with a 5-0 win to remain in the box seat. Perhaps the biggest shock from the weekend came on the Friday night however when the Olympia Warriors produced a stunning upset to down the Lions and claim a first win of the season with Jessie Williams running…
Welcome to the Weekend Washup for another week as we creep ever closer to the conclusion of the 2022 McDonalds NPL Tasmania season. With the title wrapped up it’s just the minor placings and individual awards really left to play for at this stage and this past weekend went some way to resolving those matters. Roberto Fernandez Garrido took ahold of the Golden Boot race with his brace in Devonport’s comprehensive 3-0 win over South Hobart though Noah Mies stayed in the hunt as he scored in his Lions side’s 2-1 win over the Warriors that kept their hopes of second place alive. Knights remain…
Following two years without a national championship competition due to COVID, Tasmania’s most talented junior footballers have been selected to represent the state and put their best foot forward for national selection.
Tasmanian squads were announced today to travel to Coffs Harbour to compete in the Under 14 and 16 Girls and Under 14 and 15 Boys tournaments in late September.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was great to have Tasmanian junior teams back performing on the national stage after COVID forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 championships.
Welcome to the Friday Forecast for the penultimate round of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League season. The title could potentially be settled this weekend, or it might yet be forced to the final day. That will depend on how Launceston United fares against the Lions on Saturday, win that and South Hobart can at best force it to the final day, but a draw or loss, and suddenly South will win the title with a win over Zebras on Sunday. It’s all very tight at the top, but before we get to that on the weekend, the round will kick off on Friday night with Olympia eyeing a second win of the year…
Welcome to the Friday Forecast as we hit the final fortnight of the McDonald's NPL Tasmania season. The title race may be settled but the minor placings are still up for grabs and there are some interesting fixtures on the cards for this penultimate round of action. It will kick off on Friday night with the Warriors taking on a Knights side looking to move into second place on the table, at least temporarily. The Lions will have the same chance on Saturday but face a tricky trip to take on Launceston City whilst Devonport look to extend their long-running undefeated streak against a…
Welcome to the Weekend Wash-Up for Round 20 of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League. It was a weekend where Launceston United officially sealed the league title, with their thumping 5-0 win over Kingborough coupled with South Hobart’s 1-1 draw with the Clarence Zebras ensuring that they now cannot be caught. They are worthy champions who have put together a truly spectacular season and claimed the coveted League/Cup double having already won the Women’s Statewide Cup earlier in the year. They wobbled a little late on in the year but they had the points on the board that meant it was a…
