We have now passed the halfway mark of the 2019 WSL season, with 31 of the 60 games having been played and its getting mighty tight up at the top of the table. The Hobart Zebras moved within a point of Olympia with their midweek win over Clarence, and they have a game in hand over the Warriors as it stands. With the sides still to play two more times including a final day showdown, it could well be a race that goes right down to the last game of the season. Both sides will be expecting to pick up three points this weekend and with just 3 goals separating the sides on goal difference, they…
All eyes will turn to Valley Road on Saturday for the Lakoseljac Cup Final rematch and a potentially season defining game between the Devonport Strikers and South Hobart.
The massive encounter will go a long way towards determining the 2019 NPL TAS title with Devonport currently sitting on top of the table, with a five point buffer to second placed Olympia, and sit eight points clear of South who have a game in hand. So if Devonport were to win and widen that gap up to 11 points it would get incredibly tough for South to reel them in. If South win however then it tightens right back up and…
They left it late and it wasn't pretty at times, but the Hobart Zebras eventually prevailed 3-2 over Riverside Olympic to consolidate their place in the NPL TAS top four.
Facing a side with just two wins for the season, the Zebras took a slim lead into half time before two minutes of magic from Chris Wademan grabbed an unlikely lead for the underdogs. His quickfire brace wasn't enough, though, as a Riley Dillon free kick and an 86th-minute winner from Matthew Pace stole victory and the three points for Hobart.
Kicking off in strong winds at KGV, both sides struggled to adjust to the…

Football Federation Australia today announced the release of new Inclusivity Principles for Club Identity to replace the National Club Identity Policy.
FFA Chief Executive Officer David Gallop said the move to a principles-based approach to deal specifically with the issue of club identity – e.g. name, logo, principles and actions – was a positive step for the game.
“These new principles are not intended to be enforceable regulations. They are really about helping clubs be more inclusive and welcoming of people from all cultural backgrounds.
“Football in Australia has a rich and diverse…
A very cagey game was on display at Warrior Park but in the end Olympia's quality came through and got the vital 3 points in a 2-0 win over South Hobart.
The first half was very wasteful from Olympia who nearly broke into double figures with shots off target, but credit to South's defence who held the line well and made Olympia turn the ball over a number of times. South had some standout performances in defence, centre back Sophie Rule and Lucy Roberts held the line well and brought some tidy possession for the team.
In the second half after it looked like South had made a game out…
A five-goal haul to Allie Berry led the Hobart Zebras to a dominant victory over Clarence United on Saturday. Berry’s goals, along with singles to Rachel Gill and Keilin Fagan helped to round out a great performance from the visiting side.
After facing each other just three days ago the Zebras were the clear favourites heading into the contest, and they started fast with an early Allie Berry chance. This chance was followed by some great one touch play from the visiting team, before a great Zoe Nichols through ball led to the offside flag being raised, however it wasn’t long before the…
The Kingborough Lions have claimed their third straight NPL TAS win, beating the Glenorchy Knights 4-1 at KGV to leapfrog their opponents on the ladder and move into fifth place.
New manager Jez Kenth wasn't present on the sideline but his influence was clear as the Lions recovered from a horror start to snatch another important three points. Horatio Gutierrez Jr. and Jack Turner were the stars with two goals each, but it was Kingborough's defensive work rate across the field that stifled the Knights and kept them out of the contest.
That defensive pressure was sorely lacking in the opening…
A clinical performance by Kingborough Lions saw the side deliver a convincing victory over Ulverstone in bleak and raining conditions. The early pace set by the home side provided nothing but a false sense of security for the Reds. Rather the tables turned quickly when the Lions secured a two goal advantage against the run of play before halftime. Kingborough would prove to be a further headache, adding another goal to their tally before Ulverstone could claw one back, ultimately unable to mount a meaningful late come back.
While the pitch looked choppy, heavy and waterlogged, the style of…
For the second week in a row, Launceston City were the victims of an excellent second-half performance by a top-four side. Last week, City were in the match against the Hobart Zebras going into the break but were outperformed in the second half. This week, after being in the match and only 1-0 down at half time, they let two goals slip to lose 3-0 to an Olympia side looking to remain in touch with the Devonport Strikers.
The Olympia Warriors capitalised on a slow start from the home side and put their first goal away just ten minutes into the match. Bay Kurtz helped his side gain the early…
Devonport has taken a huge step towards the 2019 NPL Tasmania title after a second-half hat-trick from Miles Barnard secured a 4-1 victory over rivals South Hobart at a rain-sodden Valley Road on Saturday.
The Hobart Zebras opened the scoring after just 13 seconds and never looked back, as they defeated the Glenorchy Knights 2-1 in a game played amidst a veil of fog at KGV. Matthew Pace doubled the Zebras lead on 22 minutes and from there they ground the result out in a game that never reached great heights. A deflected Jade Clay strike gave the Knights some late hope, but they never threatened again, as the Zebras claimed the win.
Sanders strike had the Zebras ahead before most people had adjusted their eyes to deal with the fog floating across the ground, as a shot came in from the left that…
Hobart Zebras have taken South Hobart to the cleaners after completing a 10-0 win in their Saturday afternoon WSL clash at KGV.
Zebras manager Chris Hey was coaching from the stands today and it didn't make much difference to how lethal his side was today without him at the touchline.
The game started very strongly for Zebras when some good combination play from Lily Hulton and Allie Berry. Berry set up a cross for Zoe Nichols who was unmarked and she got on her right foot and nailed it home for the first of the day.
In the 11th minute Zebras were gifted a penalty when Berry was taken down…
It was one of the more remarkable finishes in NPL TAS history at Lightwood Park, as the Olympia Warriors scored three goals in the last seven minutes to steal a 3-2 victory from the Kingborough Lions.
In a result that could prove to be pivotal in the title race, a Jordan Scott brace saw the Warriors draw level before a 95th minute penalty was tucked away by Jack Ryan to seal an unlikely turnaround. Playing with ten men for more than half of the game, the Lions bravely held on to be within touching distance of a massive upset before the visitors showed their class late and claimed a crucial…
The Olympia Warriors narrowly avoided slipping to second spot in the Women's Super League, as a Bonnie Davies hat trick featuring a last-gasp winner saw them steal a 3-2 win over the Kingborough Lions.
It was a back-and-forth affair at Lightwood Park as both sides had time in the lead, but it took a 91st minute strike from Davies to finally seal a victory for the Warriors. The result sees them stay at the top of the WSL table, while the Lions fell heartbreakingly short of a statement win against the league leaders.
The opening exchanges went as the form guide would suggest, with the…
A gutsy display by Riverside Olympic saw them claim a 0-0 with South Hobart to all but end the Cup Champions league title aspirations.
On the park the two sides brought two very different philosophies. The aim of the game for South Hobart was possession as they searched for the golden opportunity to break the deadlock. As for the home side, Riverside brought defensive discipline in the style of a moving brick wall, giving away very few clean opportunities at goal while venturing forward on the odd counter attack to give their opponent moments of fright.
Ulverstone coach Mal Gorrie says his side did what they had to do to return to winning form in the Women's Super League against Clarence United FC at the Ulverstone Showgrounds.
The Reds scored three goals either side of the half time break to finish with a 6-0 win, with Jazmin White scoring five and Lucy Reimer scoring the other goal.
