The Olympia Warriors beat Clarence in comfortable fashion at Wentworth Park, producing a 6-0 win over their Eastern Shore rivals. Jack Ryan, Joffrey N'Koso and Nick Mearns all scored braces in what proved was an easy afternoon for second placed Olympia, as they closed the gap on ladder leaders Devonport Strikers to 2 points.
Clarence came into the clash under pressure after last week's 10-0 loss to Glenorchy Knights. They started the better, enjoying some possession in the final third and causing some nervous moments for Olympia in the opening few minutes…

Felix Charles was the hero for Beachside, saving three penalties as his side won a penalty shootout over the Olympia Warriors to lift the Under 20’s Statewide Cup. Beachside twice came from behind twice in regulation time in a match that was dominated by their opposition.
Beachside went into the match as underdogs, coming up against an Olympia side with numerous players with NPL experience who were looking to defend their title as state champions.
Beachside had a chance within a minute of kick-off when Harry Young found himself with space just outside the Olympia box but his strike to the…
A stunning Danielle Kannegiesser brace fired the Hobart Zebras to a 3-1 win over the Kingborough Lions in the Women’s Statewide Cup Final edition of the Safari derby at KGV on Monday afternoon. The victory coming after the Lions had controlled much of the match.
The cup-specialists Kingborough had got themselves to the final for the second-year running and found themselves underdogs in this year’s edition also.
And it certainly wasn’t the start they wanted when Kannegiesser’s 30-yard strike hit the top-right corner to put the Zebras one-nil up in just the 5th minute.
The grey skies and wet weather didn't deter the spectators, as a bumper crowd in excess of 2000 people, were treated to three cracking cup finals on Monday at KGV. South Hobart (Lakoseljac Cup) Hobart Zebras (Women's) and Beachside (Under 20's) were crowned the Statewide Cup Champions on a pulsating day of Cup Final action that delighted those in attendance.
In addition to the massive crowd in attendance, the Live Stream of the games broke record for most viewed game, with over 1700 people tuning in simultaneously during the Lakoseljac Cup Final, with more than 15,000 unique…

Hobart Zebras 1-2 Kingborough Lions
The Kingborough Lions have continued their rapid rebuild under new coach Jez Kenth with an upset 2-1 win over the Hobart Zebras at KGV. A stunning two-minute brace from Horacio Gutierrez Jr. fired the Lions ahead in a dominant first half performance, before a contentious penalty kept the Zebras close heading into the break. Despite outplaying their hosts for the entire 90 minutes, Kingborough couldn’t find a goal to kill the game off but survived a late Hobart push to take an important three points.
It was chaotic, it was exciting and it was controversial at times, but at the final whistle South Hobart were the Lakoseljac Cup champions after a 2-0 win over Devonport.
In a game where the momentum swung wildly and both teams had their fair share of chances, it was a 90th minute volley from Tobias Herweynen that won the cup for Ken Morton's men and sent them into the FFA Cup round of 32.
While the Strikers may have had some grounds to complain with a strong penalty shout turned down in the dying minutes, they were ultimately left to rue their earlier missed chances as South stole the cup…
A team of the fortnight probably more accurate, as this team of the week is for games played in Rounds 13/14, between June 1-8.
GK- Lachlan Clark (Launceston City)
A pair of wins for the City shot stopper and just the single goal conceded in 180 minutes. His game against Knights was particularly impressive as he kept the clean sheet.
CB- Lucas Hill (Olympia)
Important in keeping things controlled at the back and typically looked to get forward whenever possible, scoring a commanding header against Zebras and creating some chances against Clarence.
With the Cup run and done for another year, attention swings back to the NPL TAS and the race to the finish line. For most sides, we are at around the halfway mark of the season so there is still a lot of water to go under the bridge just yet and plenty of opportunities for sides to rise and fall.
The action starts on Friday night with a Safari Derby between the Hobart Zebras and Kingborough Lions. With his first win as the Kinbgorough Lions new coach in the bag, Jez Kenth now turns to face a tough challenge as his Lions side take on the Hobart Zebras. The Lions have made a positive start…
The Super League returns for Round 11 and with the Statewide Cup out of the way, its becomes the sole focus for the sides moving forwards. We're still well short of reaching halfway, so there is plenty of football to be played as the sides try and reel in the league leading Warriors. Their two biggest challengers play off against one another this week, so if things go their way then they could yet even extend their advantage atop the table.
Those challengers are the Hobart Zebras, fresh off their Monday Statewide Cup triumph and the defending champions in Ulverstone, who are starting to…
The Kingborough Lions have continued their rapid rebuild under new coach Jez Kenth with an upset 2-1 win over the Hobart Zebras at KGV.
A stunning two-minute brace from Horacio Gutierrez Jr. fired the Lions ahead in a dominant first half performance, before a contentious penalty kept the Zebras close heading into the break. Despite outplaying their hosts for the entire 90 minutes, Kingborough couldn't find a goal to kill the game off but survived a late Hobart push to take an important three points.
The game rolled gently into first from the kickoff, with no…
It was a cold winters Saturday afternoon twilight clash at Lightwood tonight, and the Lions utilised their home advantage to storm home in a 7-2 thrashing down at the Den. There would be no Laura Davis in the starting eleven today but that didn't stop the Lions showing just how good their depth is without her.
The opening 15 minutes was full throttle attack from both sides, neither team wanted to defend, the focused was on getting quick goals. This open style of play from South gave Kingborough their first goal, as Emille Tatton made her way down the right wing and whipped in a lovely cross…
They were given a frights early, but the Devonport Strikers have moved five points clear on top of the NPL TAS ladder with a 5-2 win over Glenorchy at KGV.
An electric first half from the returning Callum Brown looked to have the Knights in the box seat, but Devonport clawed their way back in front before half time and controlled the game brilliantly from there. Eddie Bidwell, Miles Barnard, Max Fitzgerald and Joel Stone were all outstanding and hit the scoreboard for the Strikers in another crucial result in the NPL TAS title race.
The game started with a flurry as both teams had chances…
The Olympia Warriors secured a comfortable 5-0 win over Clarence United on Saturday afternoon in their Round 11 WSL encounter. The Warriors bossed the contest and threatened to score more, but a resilient defensive effort and inspired goalkeeping display from Amelia Vanderniet ensured the Reds avoided a major blowout.
Having been on the end of a thumping result in their last meeting, Clarence seemed to determined to avoid a repeat and kept plenty of numbers behind the ball as Olympia probed away in the early exchanges. Room was at a real premium for players and anyone receiving the ball…
A clinical display by the Hobart Zebras saw the side claim a massive win on the road over Ulverstone. Two contrasting goals: one conjured by magic, the other born of defensive negligence, would prove to be the difference between the sides. In a contest that was stuck in the middle of the park in the way bubblegum can be stuck to hair, scoring opportunities were a rare commodity. But that didn’t stop Allie Berry and Zoe Nichols from finding the back of the net and handing the Zebras a crucial 2-0 win.
The clouds drifting in front of the sun at kick off was fitting for the occasion, because a…
South Hobart produced a professional performance to top off a great week for the club by defeating Clarence 6-1 at Wentworth Park on Saturday afternoon in the NPLS TAS.
South came into the match riding the high of their Lakoseljac Cup victory over Devonport just five days earlier, but with some injuries they had to ensure they weren’t too complacent against a Clarence side that had improved since the teams last met.
From kick-off the Clarence’s players showed some real gusto and pushed forward immediately with Lachlan Burt beating two men on the edge of the box before playing in Sam Randall…
The Strikers number one could not be faulted for either goal he conceded and his strong presence and leadership at the back were important when the game was in dispute.
RB- Adam Gorrie (South Hobart)
Gorrie caused carnage down the right wing all night against Clarence, impacting the scoreboard by bagging a pair of assists.
CB- Danny Cowen (Kingborough)
Deployed in the heart of the Lions defence, the experienced skipper led from the front with an imperious performance in which he bossed the aerial duels.
Was shelled for a large portion of the game against the Warriors but kept the scoring down with a top drawer performance. Even two of the goals she did concede saw her pulling off stunning saves initially.
RCB- Sophie Leszczynski (Olympia)
Clarence didn't get a shot away in this match and a portion of that was Leszczynski shutting down anything that came her way. In complete control at the back .
CB- Kayla Mason (Hobart Zebras)
Did a great job on the lethal Jazmin White as they renewed what is becoming one of the best individual duels in the league. Mason'…
