Olympia saw off a gallant effort by South Hobart to claim a 2-1 victory in their Round 8 WSL clash. Mary Coy’s cool goal from a close range free kick levelled the scoring after a ‘no look’ goal by Bianca Parker ten minutes earlier in the first half. However it was Madi Chambers, finding a moment of composure to sink one of her many opportunities that would seal the victory for Olympia. Some tense moments and false alarms were had in the second half, but all the scoring was finished by half time.
South Hobart came out with it all to play for, putting in a high press and looking to transition…
South Hobart survived a late second half fightback to down Kingborough 4-2 at Darcy Street on Sunday.
It took just eight minutes for Ben Hamlet to open the scoring for the home side, with Nick Morton and Bradely Lakoseljac adding to the score before halftime. In the second half the South dominance continued through an Isky Van Doorne rocket, before goals to Brayton Allan and Danny Cowen saw the Lions re-enter the contest, however the comeback was not to be, with South Hobart running out 4-2 winners.
The game kicked off with some quick passes from the visiting Kingborough, before South won…

Despite the final scoreline, Hill was supberb in the Roos net and their late rally was only possible because he kept his side in the game with a string of quality saves.
RB- Adam Gorrie (South Hobart)
His usual attacking self as he marauded forward and created chances for his side, including a nice assist on Morton's goal.
CB- Raphael Reynolds (Devonport)
Probably his best game since returning to the state, won a lot of balls in dispute and cut out a heap of crosses into the box.

If Australia’s bid to host the 2023 Women's World Cup tournament is successful, then Tasmania hosting games is a distinct possibility. That is the message from Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley.
Football Federation Australia is compiling a bid to be submitted by October, with the host nation will be chosen in March next year. Australia’s bid faces competition from Japan and a joint North-South Korean bid.
A workshop was held by FFA last week to provide more information about the bid to state and territory governments and the feedback for Tasmania was positive.

When one of the best players in the world refuses to play for her nation, it’s not meant to make people comfortable. When arguably the best player in the world refuses to play at a World Cup it’s not meant to taste like a nice sweet cuppa hot chocolate. You say:
“The world’s best need to play on the biggest stage”
Yes. That’s why when the world’s best makes a stand to no do so, we should listen up.
Look to history, boycotts motivate change.
The biggest? Apartheid in South Africa. To quickly summarise a very complicated situation, the world essentially boycotted the nation in the…
The Women's Statewide Cup Semi Finals are set to be fought out this weekend, with passage through to the June 10th decider up for grabs. Many will be anticipating a Zebras v Warriors final following the draw, but that might be too presumptive as their respective Semi Final games are anything but elementary.
In the first Semi Final, the Den lights up with the Kingborough Lions hosting the Olympia Warriors. The Lions will be looking to return to the final for the second time in as many years having fallen to Taroona 3-1 in last seasons decider.
The Devonport Strikers defeated University 2-1 in Saturday's Lakoseljac Cup clash to book their place in the Final for the third time in four years. Holding on to win despite a late goal from the Students giving them a scare in the closing minutes.
The visitors were far from their best but the NPL ladder leaders managed to hold on for the win against a compact, persistent University side thanks to a goal in each half from Barnard and Giampaoli respectively.
The tone was set early as Devonport pushed for the opening goal from the kick off, Max Fitzgerald having a bursting run down the right…
The Kingborough Lions are returning to the Statewide Cup Final after downing Olympia 3-1 at Lightwood Park on Saturday night.
In another tight, hard fought battle between the pair, Laura Davis's second half brace proved the difference between the sides after Hanna Manuela had earlier handed the Lions the dream start with her first half volley. Olivia Bomford revived some hope for the Warriors, cutting the lead from 2-0 to 2-1 with her well taken free kick, but it was the Lions talisman Davis who would land the knock out blow when she fired home in stoppage time.
An inspired South Hobart side has stormed into the Lakoseljac Cup final with a 5-2 win over the Olympia Warriors at Darcy Street.
Dominant for most of the afternoon, they struck twice early and were able to steady after a Joffrey Nkoso wonder strike threatened to pull Olympia back into the contest. Nkoso finished with a brace for the visitors, but it was South's Ben Hamlett who stole the show with a hat-trick and a gut-busting performance up front.
The hosts looked the more likely side right from the kickoff, as Hamlett had two shots on goal in the first six minutes. He had his first goal…
The Hobart Zebras hit six goals in trying condition against the Northern Rangers to see them safely through to the 2019 Statewide Cup final.
A first half brace against the wind from Danielle Kannegiesser gave the Zebras the foundation they needed to fire home for the second half. Rangers showed glimpses of potential moving forward, but hesitation take an early shot from distance with the wind and conceding goals at key moments proved heir unravelling.
The early contest looked as though Rangers were able to put the pressure on the Zebras defensive line. The home side won some of those…
The Kingborough Lions United Football Club have today announced Jez Kenth as the new coach of their NPL Tasmania side.
The former University and Launceston City coach, who was also an assistant to Peter Savill at Hobart Zebras, will come on board to replace Greg Calvert, who stepped down from his role following a 4-0 loss to Launceston City earlier in the month.
Kenth most recently coached at Launceston City in the 2018 season, helping to guide the club to a fourth place finish: their highest place ever in an NPL TAS season. Prior to his stint at City he had a highly successful time at…
The NPL action resumes this weekend with four games after a weekend off for the Cup Semi Finals, amongst them are some good rivalry games that are sure to give the players that little bit extra to play for.
It starts on Friday night where the Glenorchy Knights will take on Clarence at KGV, with the game now kicking off at 7:15pm, an hour earlier than originally scheduled.
Last time they met, the Knights dominated the game by rattling off some 27 shots to 2 en route to a comfortable 5-0 win that probably should have been by more. Certainly Clarence have improved since that clash back in…
