Lions Thump Clarence To Advance
Archived Article

Kingborough have cruised into the Quarter Finals of the Women's Statewide Cup, beating Clarence 5-0 in a dominant display at Lightwood Park.

In a game they could have won by twice the margin, the Lions fired 34 shots on goal and had the vast majority of the possession for the full 90 minutes. Only a best-on-ground performance from Clarence goalkeeper Amelia Vandermiet and some wayward finishing in front of goal spared Clarence from a more demoralising scoreline.

The Lions looked to be switched on from the opening whistle, and they had the lead all too easily inside the first five minutes.…

Late Fitzgerald Strike Sneaks Devonport Through

The Devonport Strikers were given a scare at Lightwood Park, but a late Max Fitzgerald goal saw them prevail 2-1 against Kingborough and advance to the Lakoseljac Cup quarter finals.

A lethargic Strikers outfit should have probably been behind at half time after a saved penalty from Lions skipper Danny Cowen. But some heroics from keeper Nathan Pitchford in the first half, and a much improved performance after the break, saw them do just enough to advance.

The game rolled gently into first gear from kickoff, as both teams eased into the contest over the first ten minutes. Despite their…

It was the third time in as many seasons that these two prestigious clubs have come up against each other in the knockout competition and the Knights were looking to get one back after losing the last two.

Bees Send City Tumbling

Launceston City have been extraordinarily knocked out of the 2019 Lakoseljac Cup as two goals from University striker Samuel Fahey proved to be too much for the Northern outfit and it means they will play no part in the next stage of the statewide knockout competition.

Before the game has even started City were dealing with problems. Alex Turner, who has been a revelation for them at centre back this season, was out after picking up an injury against Clarence. However, the returning Patrick Sullivan is more than an ample replacement at the heart of defence.

Their troubles continued to mount…

A delightful double from Will Darling has fired Taroona into the last eight of the Lakoseljac Cup for 2019. The Taroona talisman struck twice in the space of 10 first half minutes to give his side a 2-0 lead after 30 minutes that they then never looked like relinquishing.

On a day in which Fox Sports was on location capturing footage for their Magic of the Cup series about the scenic nature of their home ground, Will Darling conjured his own magic, chiming in with a lovely chipped second goal having headed his side into the lead minutes earlier.

Riverside Olympic have marched through to the Quarter Finals of the Lakoseljac Cup, as they comfortably accounted for Nelson 3-0 on Saturday at Windsor Park.

Aaron Campbell opened the scoring via a first-half penalty in a competitive first 45 that gave Nelson reasons to believe they could repeat their Road trip North in 2017.

But Riverside ran the game out the stronger in the second half, and saw off the challenge of the visitors with goals from Matt Spanos, firing in first goal for his new side and Mitch Roberts sealed the 3-0 victory.
