University have advanced to the final 8 of the Women's Statewide Cup, as they won a goal fest over Somerset 8-3 at Cardigan Street.
In an action packed game, the Sharks gave the Bees a scare when they closed the score to 4-3 heading into the final 20 minutes of the game, but the visitor snapped into gear and made sure of the result, scoring four more times to ensure their progression.
University Coach Patrick Watts said he enjoyed the trip to Cardigan Street and lauded the young players in his squad.
"Somerset are a good team, we were impressed with their style of play and…
The Hobart Zebras remain the only undefeated side in the NPL TAS, downing Devonport 2-1 at KGV on Monday.
A fast-starting Zebras got the scoring underway through Nicky Edwards in the 7thminute, before Matthew Sanders doubled the home sides lead just four minutes later. On the cusp of halftime Kieran Mulraney struck back for the visitors but it wasn’t enough, seeing Hobart run out 2-1 winners.
The game began with the Zebras on the attack, playing a different style to usual, and this proved to be working, with Matt Pace creating an early chance. The Zebras new style continued to push the…
A frenetic second half wasn't enough to break the deadlock between Launceston City and Kingborough, as both sides missed a chance to gain on the ladder leaders with a 0-0 draw on Easter Monday.
It was a tale of two halves at Lightwood Park, but neither the cagey first half or the action-packed second was able to produce a game-winning goal. Instead it was the goalkeepers that stole the show, with both City's Lachlan Clark and Kingborough's Kenneth Perkinson producing some excellent saves to earn a point each for their sides.
The game started slowly, as both sides looked to keep possession…
A second-half Lachlan Burt penalty earned Clarence United their first points of the season against a frustrated Riverside Olympic on Easter Monday at Wentworth Park.
The bottom two were meeting for the first time this season, presenting a great opportunity for either side to grab some rare points for themselves.
The match certainly started the way in which you might expect two teams struggling for form, extremely cagey with neither team able to take the match by the scruff of the neck.
It took until the 15th minute for the first real effort on goal which fell to Riverside. Rhys Kinslow…
History was made at Lightwood Park on Saturday evening, as for the first time in a Men's Top Flight football game in Tasmania, a game was officiated by an all female refereeing team.
The Kingborough Lions v Clarence United game saw Tasmania become the second state in the Country after Queensland to have an NPL game officiated by three female match officials.
Lauren Hargrave, one of the State's most promising refereeing products ran the middle as she visited for the week. Hargrave has been based out of Canberra…

The draws for the Quarter Final Stage of the Statewide Cup competitions have today been held at KGV Football House. The games are to be played the weekend of May 10-12 with dates and kick off times TBD over the coming day.
In the Lakoseljac Cup, the tie of the round is undoubtedly the Hobart Zebras v Devonport game, with the two having played out a thrilling 2-1 game on Easter Monday in the league. With the pair to meet in Round 11 NPL TAS action, it means the sides will now play each other in consecutive weeks, playing at Valley Road a week earlier.
North Hobart is set to host a pair of blockbuster NPL TAS clashes this ANZAC Day, as the league begins its second full round of fixtures. Now that everybody has played each other once we have a decent sample size to judge teams from, and that sample size points to what should be a cracking day of football at North Hobart on Thursday.
If the main takeaway from the opening 9 Rounds was that Devonport remains the team to beat, then Monday's lesson was that talented as the Strikers side is, they remain fallible. The Hobart Zebras win over the Strikers was a timely reminder of the fine margins…
The Olympia Warriors have moved to the top of the NPL TAS table with a 3-1 win over the Glenorchy Knights. Rowan Heggie brought a dreary game to life with his stunning bicycle kick that gave the Knights the lead, before Joffrey Nkoso fired back within a minute. Jack Ryan then put the Warriors back in front before Nkoso's second goal, coming in stoppage time iced the victory.
With league-leaders Devonport dropping points last match, the Warriors went into this clash knowing they had the chance to go top.
Before the match got underway there was a short ANZAC Day service in which presidents of…
It had goals galore and no shortage of controversy as Benjamin Hamlett swept home a chance in the 82nd minute and settled an instant ANZAC Day classic 5-4, in favour of South Hobart over the Zebras at North Hobart oval.
His second goal of the day capped off the third time South had come from behind to eventually win a see-sawing contest. Mathew Sanders handed the Zebras the lead on 20 minutes before goals from Walter, Hamlett and Van Doorne had South firmly in command at half time. A second half blitz saw the Zebras rally to suddenly lead 4-3 after 58 minutes, before Mathew Sanders had one…

The Olympia Warriors gave up a two goal advantage as Hobart Zebras fought back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw in today's WSL clash at Warrior Park.
The early stages of the game presented plenty of attacking opportunities for both sides as Olivia Bomford, Maddie Chambers and Zoe Nichols all found themselves one on one with a chance to open the scoring within the first fifteen minutes. All three missed the target however as Bomford shot wide right, Chambers to the left and Nichols put her effort over the advancing Farrow but also over the bar as the opening twenty minutes came and went…
There was no need for heroic fight-backs this week, as Ulverstone downed South Hobart 4-1 at home in their Super League clash.
Sharing the scoring around, Jazmin White Tiela Weeda, Danielle Mitchell and Amy Bissett were all on the board for the home side, while Mary Coy found a consolation for South. On a grey, windy afternoon in Ulverstone the match saw spells of murky midfield battles, with the ability to play the long ball ultimately the move that would really open up play.
The wind was literally in Ulverstone’s sails for the first half, blowing a gale toward their attacking end. Some…
Clarence have produced one of the shocks of the Women's State League season, beating the Kingborough Lions 2-1 at Lightwood Park.
Just eight days after a 5-0 defeat to the Lions in the Statewide Cup, Clarence showed plenty of grit and determination to flip the script and steal a memorable win. Just as in their cup matchup, goalkeeper Amelia Vandermiet was outstanding between the sticks, but this time she had ample support from a backline led superbly by Zara Dixon.
For the Lions, an injury to superstar striker Laura Davis added salt to the wounds of an unexpected loss. They sorely missed…
The Devonport Strikers have bounced back from their first defeat of the season in impressive style, defeating Launceston City 5-2 at home. The victory sees the Strikers return to the top of the NPL Tasmania table, leapfrogging the Olympia Warriors to go two points clear at the top.
A first-half blitz from the home side proved to be the difference between the two sides, with winger Max Fitzgerald looking like his usual dangerous self early on. Within the first fifteen minutes, Fitzgerald produced three scoring opportunities, one of which being his goal in the ninth minute.
A classy cameo off the bench for the returning Horacio Gutierrez Jnr ensured the Kingborough Lions walked away with the win over Clarence on Saturday night at Lightwood Park. Having struck the post 5 times in the game and with the score still sitting at 1-0 after 70 minutes, the door had been left ajar for Clarence to sneak something late. But Gutierrez Jnr stepped up and with two sweet strokes of his right boot he put the result beyond doubt and secured the 3-0 win.
The game began in almost hurricane like conditions, it was the windiest NPL TAS game I have seen in some time and it was clear…
Team selected on games played between Monday 22 April- Sunday 28 April, Round 10 and Round 1 Catch ups.
GK- Lachlan Clark (Launceston City)
A stunning performance against the Kingborough Lions earned his side a point on the road in what was one of the great goalkeeping duels in recent memory.
CB- Ethan Olner (Riverside)
The Roos captain was a tower of strength for his side against Clarence, making a number of big challenges and he saved a certain goal with a super goal line clearance.
CB- Nicholas Cuthbertson (Kingborough Lions)
