Welcome to the Friday forecast for another week, with a top of the table NPL showdown set to headline this weekend's action.
The action begins on Friday night when the Glenorchy Knights take on the Kingborough Lions under the lights of KGV. Both sides will be keen for victories having lost in their last starts. The Knights have taken points from the sides below them so far, but fallen to the top sides and they will want to ensure that the Lions are in the former category. It will be the Lions first venture away from Lightwood Park where they have started with a run of four fixtures and also…
The Glenorchy Knights ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over the Kingborough Lions on Friday night at KGV. The Knights fell behind to an early Danny Cowen penalty, but were level within two minutes through Declan Brown before Nowicki put them 2-1 up heading into the break. Two early Second-half goals in the space of two minutes from Brown and Nowicki then put the game to bed.
It was a match full of debutantes in round 8 of the NPL TAS, with Joel Sammut and American Cameron Steele donning the blue and black for the first time. For the Knights it was a first appearance for ex-Zebras defender…
The Hobart Zebras have scored a thumping victory over Riverside, downing them 9-0 in their Saturday afternoon NPL TAS clash. The onslaught began early as the Zebras scored twice in the space of the first five minutes and it only got worse from there on out for the hosts.
An early corner brought about the first goal of the game as Jordan Muller marked his return to the starting lineup with a goal, hooking one home from all of a yard out. That lead was then doubled from their very next attack, Pace poking home a rebound that Murfet left on the doorstep.

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley has welcomed Federal Labor's commitment of $210,000 to build three new light towers at the Ulverstone Showgrounds if elected, and thanked Justine Keay for her terrific ongoing support of the game in Tasmania.
The upgrades will see the construction of a trio of new towers to light up the showgrounds and allow the club greater access for training sessions, as well as the ability to stage night time games.
"We are pleased to see this latest commitment from Federal Labor as we continue to work towards ensuring our game has the infrastructure it requires to…
Hobart Zebras flexed their muscle in WSL action today, scoring six goals and comfortably defeating a battling South Hobart side at KGV. In what was truly a game of two halves, South Hobart looked good coming into the half time break on level terms, however a dominant final 20 minutes saw five goals and a red card, all in favour of the home side.
The game was blown open after just six minutes when Lily Hulton was played in on goal and slid her effort under the advancing McMullen to give the Zebras the lead. Danielle Kannegeisser dictated the play for Zebras from her wide position and created…
A solitary goal in the first half from Olivia Bomford was enough to secure the Olympia Warriors a 1-0 win over the Kingborough Lions. In another tight encounter between the two sides, just as it was in the Summer Cup final, one goal proved enough for Olympia, as they maintained their 100% record.
In a tense, tight encounter, both sides enjoyed a handful of quality opportunities. The goal halfway through the first half was to be the only of the match, as the game evened out during the second half, turning into a tense midfield battle rather than the frequent quick transitions forward on show…
Devastation arose throughout Buckby Land Rover Park as Launceston City conceded late in their clash with the Olympia Warriors. It was a tight affair that became very scrappy as the game went on, but it was an 86th-minute goal from substitute Jonathan Mulungula that was the difference between the two sides.
The first half was particularly even, with neither side being able to break through and get an opener. City looked especially comfortable early on despite not controlling possession. Olympia held the ball well but were unable to make that breakthrough play to put them in the lead. The home…
A vintage performance from goalkeeper Nathan Pitchford helped secure a massive three points for the Devonport Strikers, as they overcame South Hobart 1-0 at Darcy Street. In a tightly fought, physical affair, the Strikers keeper produced a number of top drawer saves to deny the hosts, before Miles Barnard came off the bench to head home the match winner 15 minutes from time.
The Devonport Strikers have continued their undefeated start to the season, downing South Hobart in dramatic fashion at Darcy Street on Sunday.
The game begun with hearts in mouths for the travelling Devonport…
The Hobart Zebras have advanced to the quarter finals of the Lakoseljac Cup with a 6-0 win over Clarence in their Round of 16 clash on Tuesday night at KGV. As expected they proved too strong for the Reds, racing to a 4-0 half time lead and never looking troubled as they booked their passsage.
Olympia has moved into top spot on the NPL TAS table after a strong second half against Kingborough saw them leave Lightwood Park with a 4-1 win and three crucial points.
After an even start to the game, the Warriors ran over the top of the Lions and buried the game after the break. Three goals after half time took the contest away from the Lions, who fought hard but were outclassed by a team in the thick of the title race once again this season.
Things looked promising for the home side in the early proceedings, as they settled quickly and looked the more likely team in attack. While they…
Delivered one of the more clutch goalkeeping displays you'll see, and his stunning 92nd minute save at full extension was just one of a number of huge stops that secured a massive 3 points.
An honourable mention to Lachie Clark, who produced another massive performance for City that would get him in most weeks. Dead stiff 2 weeks in a row.
CB-Jake Vandermey (Olympia)
Marshalled the defensive unit well and won his defensive duels as the experienced centre half showed why he has been so highly regarded for so long.
Was kept busy in the Lions net but yielded just the single goal in an impressive outing. Made some important saves and was dependable all afternoon long.
CB- Hanna Manuela (Kingborough)
The best player on the park, Manuela was a tower of strength at the back for the Lions and consistently repelled Warriors attacks.
CB- Maddie Black (Olympia)
Played an important role in keeping Davis subdued and offered good leadership at the back, keeping the defensive line well organised and disciplined.
Four games this weekend in the NPL TAS, to conclude Round 9 which got underway midweek. Three games on the Saturday with one on the Sunday, which is where we will begin.
An old rivalry is set to play out for the first time in the NPL TAS for the first time in four years as the Glenorchy Knights take on the Hobart Zebras on Sunday at KGV. The Zebras remain undefeated, with three wins and three draws so far this year in their six games to sit in fourth place. Those drawn matches have left them trying to make up some early ground to their fellow title rivals, but time remains on their side…
In Round 5 of the Women's Super League, we have a logjam of games on Saturday afternoon, including a particularly juicy looking encounter between the two most recent Champions.
The action starts over at Warrior Park with Olympia looking to add to their lead atop the table. They've looked the cream of the crop through the opening rounds and early though it may be, they are going to take some catching. There is talent through all the lines of this side and Jenna Farrow is a seriously impressive goalkeeper backstopping them. Whilst Olympia are presumptive clear favourites for this one, we haven…
The Devonport Strikers have moved back into top spot on the NPL TAS table as they comfortably accounted for Kingborough 6-0 at Valley Road. The dam walls burst open in the second half as they turned a 1-0 half time lead into a big win, with Miles Barnard and Ignacio Giampaoli both bagging braces. The win was the Strikers sixth clean sheet in seven games so far, from which they have now won all seven.
Two late goals from Zoe Nichols saw the Hobart Zebras edge out Ulverstone 5-3 to claim victory in an absolute thriller at KGV. In a game that will be hard pressed to be topped all season,Ulverstone had seemingly snatched a point when they levelled nearing the end of regulation time having earlier trailed 3-1. But Nichols delivered the knockout blow to complete her hat-trick and secure the three points.
