The Summer Cup continues with Matchday 2 of the Women's competition and Matchday 1 opening up proceedings for the Men's Championship clubs.
Starting with the Women's competition, where there is a Friday night double header at KGV. At 5:45pm, Clarence will take on Kingborough, with the Lions side looking to put themselves on the path to the Final with another 3 points. Having seen Ulverstone forfeit to them last week, a win here would leave them on maximum points and in the box seat to claim top spot in the group. Having lost 4-0 to Zebras on Matchday 1, Clarence will need to win this game…
The second week of the Women's Summer Cup has seen the Olympia Warriors all but book their ticket through to the final, where they will meet the winner of next week's Hobart Zebras v Kingborough game after they both made it 2 from 2 to start the year.
The Warriors were in imperious touch as they dismantled South Hobart on Friday night, winning 8-1. Josephine Mamic was the star of the show, scoring four times, as her side flew out to a 3-0 lead inside of 15 minutes to have the contest all but settled. After Russel had opened the scoring following a storming run from Madison Chambers,…

In a shock move, Launceston City have made a coaching switch on the eve of their 2019 NPL TAS campaign. Having only been appointed to the role in October, Peter Sawdown has stood down from his position, telling The Examiner he was concerned over player fitness levels. He will be replaced at the eleventh hour by the club's former coach Lino Sciulli, who is set to make a dramatic return to the club he last managed in 2016.
Sawdon told the Examiner fitness had been an on-going concern of his.
"The ongoing non-playing issues around fitness work, which I hold a high value, just…

"This decision has not been taken lightly as we are aware of all the work and anticipation that has gone into this weekend however we have a duty of care for all…

A fun day of MiniRoos football was the perfect recipe to help boost the students' spirits at Huonville Primary School after the recent bushfires that caused so much damage to the region.
FT WDO Debra Banks and Football Participation officers Ben Horgan and Albie Hooper headed down to the school with the inflatable target shooter and a bunch of fun games for the kids to take part in, in a bid to help lift morale.
The bush fires that decimated so much of Tasmania's land have provided tough times for so many of the children at the school, but there were plenty of smiling faces as they took…

Then from 3:00pm, the Women's Summer Cup Final will pit Olympia up against the Kingborough Lions. The Warriors breezed through their group, winning all 3 games by margins of 11-0, 8-1 and 7-0 but now face their toughest challenge yet…

As we approach the 2019 NPL TAS season kick off, here is part 1 of the 3 part season preview, with 9 players to watch, one from each of the nine clubs competing in the league this year.
Clarence- Jake French
French has made the switch over to Clarence in search of first team football, having played understudy to Sheku Kamara at Zebras last season. The youngster was only afforded a couple of starts, but produced the goalkeeping performance of the NPL Season away to Devonport in one of those starts. His stunning display against the Strikers saw him almost single-handedly keep his side in the…
How do they replace Holden and Mann's goal output?
With Brayden Mann and Michael Holden departing the club for interstate moves, there is now a hole in the Strikers attack that is going to take some serious filling. Mann scored 33 goals and Holden chimed in with 8 goals and 18 assists, an output that is not so easily replaced. New recruits Ignacia Giampaoli and Max Fitzgerald loom as particularly important, and more attacking responsibility will now fall onto the shoulders of Joel Stone. Stone went on a tear in the back half of 2018 and the Strikers will be counting on…

This season sees the NPL expanding to 9 teams, with two new entrants. One of them is Riverside, who will look to make the step up from the Northern Championship. Alex Gaetani will have his side…
The Olympia Warriors started their season with a commanding performance, as a first half Jono Ladic stunner led them to a 2-1 win over South Hobart. A Jack Ryan goal midway through the second half doubled the advantage, and it was enough to secure the win despite a stoppage time goal from Gilly DeSouza.
In truth Olympia could've had this contest settled by half time. Their first half was as dominant a 45 minutes as they have strung together against South Hobart in a long time.
Only some heroics from South keeper Kieran Brown kept the scores level against an early Olympia…
A spot in the Summer Cup Final awaits the victor of tonight's final group stage game of the Women’s Summer Cup as the Lions host the Zebras for the right to take on Olympia in Saturday’s decider. The game will kick off at 6:30pm at Lightwood Park, having been moved from Saturday due to the extreme temperatures.
Both sides have the maximum 6 points through two match-day’s by taking the full points from Ulverstone and Clarence. As the penalty shootout bonus point rule is in effect for the Summer Cup, goal difference is irrelevant. If we are tied after 90 minutes then a shootout will determine…
Four goals from Laura Davis including a first half hattrick has sent the Kingborough Lions into the Summer Cup final for 2019. The young star scored all four of her sides goals in a 4-2 win over the Hobart Zebras in an entertaining game under lights at Lightwood Park. Trailing 3-0 at the break, Lily Hulton scored twice against her former side in the second half to spark a Zebras fightback, but Davis's fourth and most spectacular of the evening was enough to seal the deal and book their spot in Saturday's cup final against the Warriors.
The opening fifteen minutes was a tight affair, with…
South Hobart got their first points of the season, as they rebounded from an opening night defeat with a 2-1 win over the Kingborough Lions. The Lions took an early lead via a long range bomb from Chris Downes, catching the keeper out, before Nick Morton hit back almost immediately for South. Jack Turner put South in front midway through the second half, and despite coming under an aerial siege late in the game, it was enough for South to take the points.
The Lions got the dream start via Downes as he took full advantage of a hashed clearance from Brown and promptly drove it straight back…
The Hobart Zebras started their 2019 NPL TAS campaign in domineering fashion, smashing Clarence 9-0 on Thursday night at KGV. Mathew Sanders scored 5 goals, taking his tally to 19 goals in 7 games against the Reds since the turn of 2017, with braces from Pace and Edwards rounding out the scoring. It was an emphatic second half display from the Zebras, as they turned a 2-0 lead into a 9-0 result, overrunning the beleaguered Reds.
It didn't take long for the Zebras to get on the board, Sanders opening his account on 12 minutes with a thumping shot that hit the roof of the net after the Reds…
