In a see sawing affair, the Olympia Warriors dug deep to start their season in style with a 3-2 victory over Hobart Zebras in their Round 1 Super League clash.
From the kick off, Olympia looked intent on playing keeping's off, managing to keep the ball rolling and hold a majority of the possession. The Zebras seemed content to let them play, sitting their midfield deep to keep the lines tights with the defence.
Some jigging feet by Chambers on the left flank and nifty balls by Michael and Bomford weren’t enough to break the Zebras down for half an hour as the Zebras defence held firm…
An 89th minute volley from Adam Mckeown salvaged a point for the Hobart Zebras, forcing a 2-2 draw with the Olympia Warriors in their Sunday afternoon clash. There was more than element of controversy in the goal, with an elbow on Lucas Hill missed in the build up, before Mckeown lashed home his stunning strike from the top of the box. Earlier the Zebras had drawn level from the penalty spot, with Mathew Sanders cancelling out Jack Ryan's opening goal. Jordan Scott appeared to have won the game for the Warriors when he poked home on 80 minutes, but the late drama denied the Warriors, who will…

In the 56th minute it was Brown who extended his sides lead, before Nowicki scored his second in the 70th. Brown then completed his treble with his third goal in the 91st minute, making no mistake from the penalty spot and seeing the Knights run out 5-0 winners.
The game started with the Knights attacking well, with Jake Stuart having…

Came up with a pair of superb saves early on against South Hobart and was a big reason why they were able to fight back and earn a point.
CB- Thomas Young (Glenorchy Knights)
A ball playing centre half who is able to help the Knights build from the back, Young's long awaited NPL debut was a quality one against Riverside, including a goal from a corner.
CB- Kieran Mulraney (Devonport)
The new Strikers captain was immovable at the back and took the points in his duel with Jack Ryan as the Strikers shut out the Warriors in their season opener.
Note- Regular weekly editions of Team of the Week will resume from this weekend.
GK- Jarrod Hill (Riverside)
A seriously impressive young keeper, Hill has played with a command that belies his age and has been the standout gloveman in the league through the opening rounds.
RB- Eddie Bidwell (Devonport)
Finally broke through for a first NPL TAS goal and has continued on with the form that saw him in the team of the season last year.
CB- Guillermo Lazcano (Devonport)
The Strikers ability to retain the services of the talented Spaniard for another season is looming large, as the Strikers…
It wouldn't have been 0-0 at half time if not for Mcmullen who enabled her side to hang in a contest they were being outplayed in. Whilst eventually yielding, it was still a strong debut performance.
RB- Rafaella Puli (Olympia)
Reliable in defence and broke things open with a thunderous opening goal, making a clever run in behind and finishing like a striker!
CB- Kayla Mason (Hobart Zebras)
Made a bunch of last ditch saving challenges that denied the Warriors almost certain goals, as multiple times she showed off her great recovery speed.
Riverside Olympic have claimed their first win in the NPL Tasmania competition, and bragging rights over rivals Launceston City, after prevailing 2-1 at Buckby Land Rover Park.
Launceston led the shot count 23-8, the corner count 15-1 and had the lion's share of possession, but goals to Mitch Roberts and Rhys Kinslow saw Riverside finish ahead on the only scoreboard that matters.
It was a cagey start to the game, as Riverside fought against a strong headwind and City looked to take advantage. While the hosts had more of the ball and the play, Riverside did well…
No shortage of football to look forward to this weekend, with a full round of NPL, big games in the Super League, including a stern first up test for the defending Champions and a Cup Final to kick it all off.
That's where we begin with Beachside and Hobart United clashing in the Summer Cup Final tonight. Beachside moved into the final comfortably, scoring three victories from their 3 group games and all of them were by more than a goal. They downed Taroona 3-1, Nelson 3-0 and New Town 2-0. With Knights promoted, they are the provisional favourites for the Southern Championship this season,…
A strong contingent of Beachside and Hobart United fans attended KGV to see their sides in the Summer Cup final last night. In what was a hotly contested game, two Finn O'Neill goals early in the second half gave Beachside what they needed to run out 3-2 winners and claim the 2019 Summer Cup in a dramatic decider.
Hobart United exploded out of the gates and continually gave Beachside worries in the final third. Solomon Lagu and Abel Berhane showed their ability early and Berhane came close to providing an assist when he flashed a ball across the face of goal just five minutes in but it…
The Hobart Zebras avenged their Summer Cup defeat and showed the young Lions side might still be a little way off title contention just yet, as they claimed a big 4-0 win in their Saturday afternoon Super League clash. After a scoreless first half, the Zebras snapped into gear in the second, scoring 3 times in 13 minutes to power away before Allie Berry put the cherry on top with her stoppage time strike.
The Zebras are showing they’ve got something special in their locker up front, with Steventon, Nichols, Kannegiesser and Berry all hitting the scoreboard. For Kingborough, despite the…
The Devonport Strikers maintained top spot on the NPL Tasmania table by downing Riverside 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Windsor Park. A goal from gun recruit Max Fitzgerald in the first half handed them a lead which they held till the 88th minute, when Brody Denehey finally converted the Strikers dominance into a second goal to ice the contest.
South Hobart piled more misery on struggling Clarence United, running out emphatic 13-0 winners in their Round 6 clash on Saturday afternoon. South dismantled the Reds, racing to a 5-0 lead after just 24 minutes and continued to run up the score as the game wore on. Darcy Hall scored fives times in his first game back as South moved into second place on the NPL TAS table and gave their goal difference a major boost.
The game began with attacks from both sides and it didn’t take long for the scoring to open. In the 6th minute Tobias Herweynen made a great run down the left before playing…
The Olympia F.C Warriors have marked themselves as the team to beat in the Women's Super League, scoring a second win over a title rival in as many games, as they accounted for Ulverstone 3-1 at Warrior Park. Having downed Hobart Zebras 3-2 on Sunday, the win makes it 2 from 2 against the sides expected to be their main title rivals this season, with goals from Mamic and Davies helping secure the win. The loss is Ulverstone's first in the WSL since 2017 having gone unbeaten last season, a feat they won't be repeating in 2019.
