The competitions premiere glove-woman continues to demonstrate why and her heroics in net were a major reason for her sides upset win over the Lions.
RB- Meghan Gaffney (Ulverstone)
Continues to play with a defensive maturity beyond her years, the Ulverstone youngster made a series of crucial defensive challenges to stop threatening attacks.
CB- Zara Dixon (Clarence)
A rock solid defensive performance from the ever reliable Dixon. Made a number of big sliding challenges and was strong in her defensive duels.
A potentially decisive weekend of NPL TAS action looms ahead, with the competition's top four sides to play each other. Hobart Zebras will take on Devonport on Saturday, whilst on Sunday it will be South Hobart against Olympia at Darcy Street. This could be a Round we look back on at the end of the year as one that proved particularly important in sorting out the contenders.
Here is how it stands heading into the weekend.
1-Devonport 24 (+26)
2-Olympia 22 (+22)
3-South Hobart 19 (+25)
4- Zebras 16 (+21)
If the Strikers were to beat the Zebras on Saturday the gap between the pair will be at…
Just the two games in the Women's Super League this weekend, but both games are interesting match-ups with the major potential to produce quality high quality contests.
Starting up on the Coast where the defending champions Ulverstone will curiously play a home game at Valley Road! The Reds will host the the Warriors at the venue in order to keep their Super League team together with the rest of their Northern Championships teams who are away to Devonport. In that way they should maximise the support the side receives. The Reds will be looking to avenge their 3-1 round 2 loss to the Warriors…

Luca Vigilante scored a potential NPL TAS goal of the year contender in Riverside’s 3-1 win against Clarence at Wentworth Park on Saturday afternoon in what was a game of two halves.
The two teams met for the second time in thirteen days at the same venue, with Clarence taking all three points in the last encounter.
The Roo’s came out looking like they were determined to redeem themselves, zipping the ball around in possession and pressing hard without it.
Clarence were flabbergasted and could hardly put a pass together early-on and were made to pay for their poor performance in the 20th…
The Hobart Zebras denied Devonport for a second time this season, claiming a 1-1 draw in their clash at Valley Road. Much like their game on Easter Monday it was the Zebras striking early before Devonport dominance, as Daniel Syson cancelled out Matthew Pace's early opener.
The game begun much like the last meeting between these sides, with the Zebras scoring an early goal. This goal came after Raphael Reynolds played the ball to Todd Hingston in the middle, with Hingston turning and playing the ball into the path of his opposition player, Matthew Pace. Pace then had space to run before…
Launceston City were too much for the travelling Kingborough Lions in their Round 11 clash at Buckby Land Rover Park. The win comes less than two weeks after the first meeting between the two sides which ended in a stalemate. This time, however, Launceston City prevailed and in spectacular fashion. A brace from Mies and one each from Linger and Dyer was the difference between the two sides this time around.
The game was evenly matched inside the first 15 minutes, with both sides exchanging attacks in an end-to-end battle. Mies was the one to break the deadlock with a well-placed strike from…
South Hobart overran Clarence United with an impressive second-half display after going behind early on Saturday afternoon at Wentworth Park to earn their first points of the WSL season.
Clarence were coming off the back of their first win of the season last week against Kingborough with some confidence, and they started the match showing it.
Just four minutes in Lilley Carissa struck a low-cross into the box which Emma Hall ran onto at the back-post and tapped in to make it 1-0 to the Reds.
Emily Grzinic was lively for Clarence early on and was a constant release for them down their right…
Ulverstone and Olympia played out a hearts in mouths, 2-2 thriller, as the Women’s Super League was brought to Valley Road. Pre-match expectations of a blockbuster were well and truly met with the match being full of action. Jazmin White was in fine form, producing an early goal and then the late equaliser. Meanwhile, new American signing for the Warriors, Lexi Pelafas announced herself to the competition, bagging a brace for her new side.
In the early going, Ulverstone came out looking to keep it organised off the ball, while feeding White up front quickly with it. On the other foot,…
It was an instant classic at Darcy Street, but the NPL TAS title race was no clearer by the end of South Hobart and Olympia's thrilling 3-3 draw on Sunday.
A stunning stoppage time goal from Jordan Scott stole a point for Olympia, who had been reduced to ten men just five minutes earlier. A second yellow card to Lucas Hill looked to have guaranteed a win for South Hobart after they had led for most of the half, but they were left to rue missed opportunities throughout the contest.
The game opened with plenty of attacking intent, but little execution. Both sides looked to play their…
Just the two games to choose from this weekend in the WSL, here were the
GK- Georgia Anderson (Ulverstone)
The Warriors would have taken all 3 points had it not been for the Ulverstone keeper who stood tall, especially in the final moments as she came up big 3 times to keep it locked at 2-2.
CB- Zara Dixon (Clarence)
South would have scored a number more goals if not for the imperious defensive work of Dixon who shut down a bunch of promising South attacks.
CB- Maddie Black (Olympia)
Black kept things under control at the back for the most part and allowed the Warriors to have the…
Once again the Kingborough Lions are on the search for a new coach midway through an NPL season, after Greg Calvert stepped down from his head coaching role after just 10 NPL Tasmania matches in charge.
The decision comes following one of the sides poorest showings this year in a 4-0 loss to Launceston City on the weekend at Buckby Landrover Park.
Calvert, who replaced Mark Broadbent in charge at the end of the 2018 season guided the Lions to a 3-1-6 record through 10 matches of the season, and has the Lions currently sitting sixth on the NPL Tas ladder.
Earlier this week, there was interesting discussion between Senator Nick McKim and the leader of the Save Hakeem campaign, Craig Foster, that was hosted by South Hobart Football Club at Wellesley Park. The pair discussed the campaign, its challenge and ramifications as well as the role football can play in helping promote human rights.
It's been a pretty remarkable week in the world of Football and ahead of our local Lakoseljac Cup Quarter Finals this weekend, its been a timely reminder of everything we love about Cup competitions.
In the most dramatic and astonishing fashion, we have all been shown just why it is that the Cup competitions hold such a special place in our game. It's because you just never know when they are going to throw up these truly improbable moments, the moments that nobody saw coming, the ones that stick with you and that will be talked about for years to come.
Eight is set to become four in the Women's Statewide Cup as we reach the Quarter Final stage. And with two of the red hot favourites for the Cup in Ulverstone and Hobart Zebras set to clash, a path could well open up for an underdog to make a run to the final.
When the balls came out for the draw it was clear there was a marquee fixture, with the two most recent WSL Champions drawn to play each other. Predictably in the event of a tough draw, I heard from a few parties the well worn cliche of "Well I suppose we would have to beat them eventually." Well, I am sorry, but no actually you…
The Kingborough Lions have advanced to the Statewide Cup Semi Finals with a 5-0 win over University at Olinda Grove. On paper it was a game that looked like it would be a real battle, but the Lions were far too strong as they stormed to victory.
Star striker for Kingborough, Laura Davis was deemed fit to start after sustaining what looked like a possible hamstring injury against Clarence couple weeks back, and she took her spot in the starting XI but it would be her fellow attacker Emille Tatton who would go on to steal the show.
The opening 15 minutes was all the Lions making their mark…
