The Women's Super League returns with Round 9 action throwing up a trio of interesting clashes, including the rematch of last Saturday night's thrilling Lions v Warriors clash.
Having played out a pulsating Semi Final just 7 days earlier, the Lions and Warriors are once again set to clash, though this time at Warrior Park. Despite it being the Warriors home ground, it may not prove much of an advantage the hosts. All of the things the Lions defence did such a superb job of last week; constricting space, blocking off the top of the penalty box and marking Warriors attackers tightly, are…
It was a real one sided affair on Friday night at KGV, with Callum Brown and Nicholas Naden both scoring hat-tricks as Glenorchy stormed to a 10-0 win over a helpless Clarence United.
Warren Burt's team really didn't impact at all tonight as Knights enjoyed having multiple goalscorers to add to the woes of this struggling club, who were desperate to get any result they can, tonight was not one of those nights. This was the Knights night.
For the opening ten minutes Clarence's defence held firm, but they were still letting Knights on the ball into the attack way too easily. That…
They were given a mighty scare, but the Devonport Strikers have moved eight points clear on top of the NPL TAS ladder after a 3-2 win against the Kingborough Lions.
Both sides were well below their best for much of the day at Lightwood Park, but in the end the class of the Strikers was enough to overcome a late charge from the Lions. An electric performance from winger Max Fitzgerald helped them to a three goal lead, before some stout late defending saw them limp to the finish line.
Surprisingly, it was Kingborough who made the more composed start as they controlled the first ten minutes.…

Ulverstone have produced a dominant performance to down Clarence 8-0 on Saturday at Wentworth Park.
Hat-trick’s to both Jazmin White and Amy Bissett, along with goals to Danielle Mitchell and Lucy Foote, saw the visitors run out easy winners.
The game kicked off with pace when Ulverstone hit a long ball from their kick off, however Clarence held strong.
Amy Bissett was involved early, producing a great one-two, and then in the 3rd minute she hit a shot straight to Vanderniet. Four minutes later and it was Jazmin White with two great chances, however she hit both just wide of goals.
The entertainment was rife both on and off the field as Hobart Zebras served up a treat in front of a packed house at Darcy street, finishing as 6-1 victors over South Hobart.
It wasn't a game for the faint hearted with tackles coming in hot, creating many quick turnovers around the park. The Zebras hummed on a different level in creating opportunities in the final third, deservedly finding six goals in return, while South struggled to build momentum from any of the midfield breaking runs they could create.
The midfield was where the ball was won early in the piece, with some major plays in…
Launceston City overcame a 1-0 half time deficit to claim a 2-1 win over Riverside in the second Northern Derby of the season. Aaron Campbell put the Roos ahead from the penalty spot in the first half, before Patrick Sullivan levelled things shortly after the interval. Isaac Degetto then pounced on a rebound to blast home what would be the match winner and reverse the score from their first meeting back in March.
The first chance of the game fell the way of Mackenzie Hancox on four minutes, but he was unable to keep his volley down as he fired over from close range.
The Olympia F.C Warriors produced one of their more dominant performances of the season, as they downed Hobart Zebras 3-1 on Sunday at Warrior Park.
The Warriors were in the ascendancy for much of the contest and when Lucas Hill nodded home just past the hour mark, the game was effectively settled.
After an uneventful opening quarter of an hour, Jordan Scott opened the scoring when he smashed a drive from outside the box that took a deflection and flew top corner beyond the reach of Sam Whatman, who was kept mighty busy in the Zebras net all afternoon.
The Olympia Warriors avenged last weekend's cup loss, as they overcame the Kingborough Lions 5-2 in atrocious conditions at Warrior Park on Sunday.
A early goal set the tone for the match, with the Lions unable to claw their way back into a match dictated by the home side. Clinical in front of goal and commanding in the centre of the park, this wasn’t going to be a day the Warriors were going to lose a lead.
Olympia were clinical quickly and took the lead on 2 minutes. Moving the ball up the park as if gliding on ice, Darci Quinn had space on the left side to put in a dangerous low cross…
The Women's Statewide Cup Final for 2019 is all set to go, with a "Safari Derby" between the Kingborough Lions and Hobart Zebras to determine who will be crowned Women's Statewide Cup Champions. The Lions are looking to go one better this year after falling just short in the final last season against Taroona, whilst the Zebras are out to capture their second Cup victory in 3 seasons having lifted the trophy in 2017.
The Lions have earned themselves the reputation of "Cup Specialists" over the past couple of seasons. Whilst their form and consistency in the Women's Super League competition…

There is no doubt that playing on the grand stage of a Cup Final will mean plenty to everyone who takes the field, but for one player in particular, Monday is set to take on extra meaning.
There will be more than the Cup on the line for Bradley Lakoseljac, grandson of the man the competition is named after, Milan Lakoseljac.
Bradley never met his grandfather but says that playing in this competition is his way of honouring his memory.
"This game has a lot of special meaning to me, never getting to meet my grandfather this has been my main memory of him. I’ve watched pretty much every…
A trio of games on the Saturday will make up Round 14 in the NPL TAS, before the collective eyes of the Tasmanian footballing public turns to KGV on Monday for Cup Final day.
First up Launceston City takes on Glenorchy Knights in a rematch of one of the more entertaining games of the season to date. The previous game was a 2-2 draw up at Buckby Landrover Park, with both goalkeepers in fine fettle. This time they will meet down in the South at KGV, which should provide the Knights with a significant advantage. Also playing into their favour is the recent return of Callum Brown, who has…
It's Time For Round 3
The 2019 Lakoseljac Cup Final will pit the Devonport Strikers up against South Hobart for the third time in four seasons when they meet on Monday. The two sides have been the dominant forces in Tasmanian Football in recent years, sharing four of the last five Lakoseljac Cups between them, with Devonport winning both finals in which they have played against South.
In 2016, it was a single goal from now South Hobart player, Adam Gorrie who scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win, before last year in 2018 it was again a 1-0 margin in the final, with Miles Barnard the goalscorer…
Mackenzie Hancox scored in the final minute of play in the first half and the Launceston City defence held up under siege in the second half as they walked away from KGV with a 1-0 win over the Glenorchy Knights. Ater an end to end first 45, the Knights bossed the second half, but they couldn't find the breakthrough as City held on stoutly and claimed a third win in four league games.
The first half was a wide open affair and it was the Knights who started brightest, creating multiple early chances for Matt Nowicki who was positioning himself on the left and…
It was a cagey game up at Windsor Park but the Kingborough Lions have come away with 3 vital points courtesy of a Cameron Steele rocket from outside the box to grab a 1-0 win over Riverside Olympic. The Lions held their structure well today and the result has shown from their efforts on the field.
The opening 15 minutes was very 50/50 as both teams were trying to feel each other out. Kingborough went out with attacking intent but their inaccuracy cost them taking what could of been a early lead. In the 19th minute Cameron Steele had a good chance outside the box but his shot was wayward.…
Ulverstone have sent a strong message to the competition, downing South Hobart 12-0 at Darcy Street on Saturday.
The defending champions were led by Jazmin White, with the Ulverstone goal machine scoring seven goals. White was helped by doubles to Tiela Weeda and Georgia Foote, with a Lucy Foote goal rounding out a dominant 12-0 win.
The pattern of the game was established quickly and it started with an early chance to Ulverstone, after a wayward South pass was cut out. Soon after and Foote had a shot going wide as the chances mounted early.
