While we are some way off understanding the true impact of COVID–19 on community sport, it’s been heartening to see so many sports getting on the front foot and taking action to address the current situation and plan for the future, whatever that entails. As the shell shock of close down subsides there is also more and more important discussion and thinking about what the future will look like.
Football Tasmania is pleased to be able to promote the free XPS Home app from Sideline Sports to all its registered participants across the State.
The XPS Home app offers football activities, games and an XPS Home Community for everyone, especially at a time when on-field competitions and trainings cannot be run.

Grassroots football around the country has today officially been postponed in response to the spread of Coronavirus. It means the new NPL and WSL seasons that were slated to start this weekend will no longer be kicking off and that they could look very different when and if they do get underway.
FFA announced the postponement of all football till April 14 but given global trends a further postponement would seem likely.

New data has confirmed football’s position as Tasmania’s most popular team sport.
The latest update to Sport Australia’s AusPlay survey estimates 7.4 per cent of Tasmanians (39,500) play football each year, ahead of Australian Rules at 4.2 per cent (22,500 participants) and basketball at 4 per cent (21,400 participants)*.
Among juniors, football’s popularity was even more clear cut, with 25.8 per cent of Tasmanian children aged between five and 18 choosing to play the World Game.

Football Tasmania has congratulated the Tasmanian Government for its continuing support of the sports community following the release of the first tranche of funding to support sports organisations.
Football Tasmania President, Bob Gordon, said that community sport will play an important role in the COVID-19 recovery.

Football Tasmania has today released the revised Season 2020 Fixtures for its top tier Statewide Competitions, the NPL Tasmania and Women's Super League.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today released a discussion paper detailing eleven proposed principles to underpin the future development and growth of football in Australia.
The discussion paper, titled XI Principles for the future of Australian football, has been compiled over several months as FFA has navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been published as a ‘living document’ which will continue to be shaped by FFA as it uses it as a basis for engagement and consultation with the Australian football community.

The Rule changes were not in effect for the 2019 Tasmanian season, but will be applied to all games this year.
